Let’s Plant Seeds for Tomorrow!
Dear Willett Families,
In a typical school garden season, all Willett students participate in a planting project within their classrooms. When the seedlings grow large enough, they are transplanted directly into the amazing garden outside, where our garden team, students, and their families volunteer to tend to them all summer. The children are able to visit and help care for the crops, and later, taste the harvest in the cafeteria or at planned garden events.
In addition to this classroom planting project, we invite all Willett families to join us in a fun garden fundraiser by planting some Seeds forTomorrow.
Here’s how it works: We will send you a pack of seeds for you to plant at home. You will need containers and soil, and we will provide written directions. When your seedlings are ready for transplant, we ask that you keep half, and give the rest back to us. Some may be planted in our school garden and some will be sold at our Willett Garden Plant Sale in June. Proceeds from this sale go towards garden programming, tools and materials.
If you would like to plant Seeds for Tomorrow, simply complete this google form. You may also give us your general preference for flowers, herbs, or vegetables, and we will try to accommodate you, depending on availability. We will need to hear from you by NO LATER THAN April 16th.
We will send seeds home with your child, the week after April vacation, with instructions. We will then reach out to you with information about the Plant Sale, including dates for dropping off your seedling donations. Be sure to include your children in the process and share photos of your seedlings on the Willett School Garden Facebook page. Willett Garden Facebook Page

The Spring Buy One, Get One Free Book Fair will be held April 14 - April 17! For students, it’s one of the most anticipated events of the school year—but we need volunteers to make it happen. Each volunteer will earn $5 Scholastic Dollars for a teacher of their choice to shop the book fair!

Spring Things…from the Health Office
Spring is here with sunny, warmer days and early emergence of pollen and molds that trigger seasonal allergies. Children, who have never been diagnosed with seasonal allergies before, may be affected when the pollen/mold levels are high.
Common symptoms include itchy/watery eyes, nasal stuffiness/drainage, scratchy throat, and headaches. If your child suffers from allergy symptoms, please contact your doctor for advice on eye drops, nasal sprays, or an appropriate non-drowsy allergy medication that can be taken before school to provide all day relief from symptoms.
Poison Ivy is everywhere. Contact with the oil from the plant’s leaf causes irritation and a red pimple-like rash. Children should wear appropriate clothing to protect their skin from exposure to poison ivy, especially in wooded or grassy areas. Showering after being outdoors is also a good practice to prevent irritation. If a skin rash develops, over-the-counter medications such as caladryl lotion or hydrocortisone cream will provide relief from minor symptoms. When the rash affects the face or eyes, contact your doctor, as a prescription medication may be needed. It is important to remove over-the-head clothing carefully to protect the face and eyes from contact with poison ivy on clothing.
As outdoor evening activities increase, the time of day when mosquitoes are most active, use of bug repellent can help prevent bites. Ticks can be found in the woods, but also in low bushes, grass and on pets. It is a good practice to check children and pets for ticks when they come in from outdoors.
Drinking enough fluids and good nutrition are very important during the warm weather as the body works harder to regulate temperature. Please encourage your child to have a full glass of a beverage, water preferred, with breakfast and to bring a drink for snack and lunch. Sunscreen can be applied in the morning at home since recess is usually outdoors, weather permitting.

Be on the lookout for the Attleboro Public Library Community Read Passport coming home in your child’s backpack. Students can use these passports to collect stamps at the various community reading events held throughout the school year. Once the passports are filled, they can bring them to school or to the public library to receive special recognition at the summer reading kick-off in June. All events will be listed on the calendar at attleborolibrary.org.
