Principal's Message

Dear Thacher Families,

It was wonderful to see so many families last night;s Welcome Back Night. We hope you enjoyed the opportunity to see the classrooms and meet the staff who work with your children throughout the day. We will have parent conferences in November where you'll have the opportunity to have a more detail conversation but if something comes up before then please don't hesitate to reach out to your teacher before then.

Have a great weekend!

Frank Rich, Principal

seal

Dear Families,

We are pleased to inform you of Attleboro High School’s participation in the Massachusetts State Seal of Biliteracy for the 2024-2025 School Year. The Seal of Biliteracy is offered to any student who demonstrates proficiency in English and any other language, whether they speak or sign the language other than English at home or learned it at school or in the community. The State Seal of Biliteracy aims to:

  1. Encourage students to study and master languages;

  2. Certify attainment of biliteracy skills;

  3. Recognize the value of language diversity;

  4. Provide employers with a method of identifying people with language and biliteracy skills;

  5. Provide universities with a method to recognize and give credit to applicants for attainment of high-level skills in languages;

  6. Prepare students with skills that will benefit them in the labor market and the global society; and

  7. Strengthen intergroup communication and honor the multiple cultures and languages in a community.

In order to earn the Massachusetts State Seal of Biliteracy, students must:

  1. Demonstrate a high level of proficiency in English by earning a minimum score of 472 or higher on the Grade 10 ELA MCAS,

  2. Demonstrate a high level of proficiency in a world language by attaining a minimum score equivalent to Intermediate-High on an assessment approved by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, and

  3. Satisfy all other graduation requirements.

 The Seal of Biliteracy with Distinction is available to students who:

  1. Earn a score of 501 or higher on the Grade 10 ELA MCAS

  2. Demonstrate a proficiency level of Advanced Low or higher on a Department-approved assessment, and

  3. Satisfy all other graduation requirements.

We will be administering the ELA MCAS throughout the year including in November and March. We will also administer AAPPL (ACTFL Assessment of Performance toward Proficiency in Languages) Measure at select times during the school year.

We look forward to honoring the language expertise and diversity in our district through this initiative. If you have any further questions, please contact Robin Frank at rfrank@attleboroschools.com.

Sincerely,

Robin Frank

This Month in Art

Dear Thacher Parents, Guardians & Caregivers,

We are beginning a new school year, and I am very happy to have your child in my art class! Communication is important to your child's progress, so if you have any questions throughout the year please feel free to contact me at Thacher School x350 or email me nmaglione@attleboroschools.com.

Here are a few highlights of our art program:

*Art Integration: Connecting art activities with the core curriculum extends and reinforces learning. Critical thinking and creative invention lies in an individual's ability to make connections, build bridges, and fuse new links between diverse ideas. The visual arts provide the perfect core for interdisciplinary learning in Science, Math, ELA & History.

*Art Appreciation: Learning about famous artists and styles helps promote a greater appreciation and understanding of art. By examining works of art we contribute to the development of critical, analytical and creative thinking.

*Art History: In our quest for a better understanding of other cultures and their art, we explore and honor the traditions of many different parts of the world, while discovering how society and culture influence art.

*Art Production: Students will be involved in the development of personal and creative expression through a variety of 2D and 3D media including drawing, painting, collage, weaving, printmaking, clay, sculpture, and multicultural art projects.

I am looking forward to a very creative and exciting year in Art!
