Principal's Message

Dear Thacher Families,

A few years ago we adjusted our open house format to one where we invite you to bring your child(ren) and have them be your tour guides for the evening. This is an opportunity for students to show off their classrooms and their work. We ask that you keep them with you and not allow them to wander the building on their own.

In an attempt to control the number of people in the building at once, in consideration of crowd size and our limited parking, we ask that families adhere to the following schedule based on their family's last name:

Last Name A - M: 5:30 - 6:15 PM

Last Name N - Z: 6:30 - 7:15 PM

We recognize that many families are busy with work, and activities, and/or have children in multiple grades. We will allow families who can't make it to their assigned time to attend the time that works best for their schedule.

Here is a break-down of the evening's schedule:

Student Last Name A - M

5:30 – 6:15: Students will guide their family to the areas of the building they spend their day in (classroom, specialists, etc.). Don't stay in one place too long to make sure you get to see everything...45 minutes goes faster than you think!

6:15-6:30: First session ends. We ask that you exit the building to allow the next group of parents to park and get into the building.

Student Last Name N - Z

6:30 – 7:15: Students will guide their family to the areas of the building they spend their day in (classroom, specialists, etc.). Don't stay in one place too long to make sure you get to see everything...45 minutes goes faster than you think!

7:15-7:30: Second session ends. We ask that families leave to allow teachers to reset their rooms to be ready to welcome your children in the morning.

We understand that you are excited to meet your child’s teacher and are eager to talk to them about your child but we ask that you refrain from using this as an opportunity for an early parent/teacher conference.

Warm regards,

Frank Rich, Principal

Title I Family Engagement Plan

The Attleboro Public Schools and its Title I School Wide Program are committed to continuously improving the opportunities for parents to be actively involved in their child's learning at home and in school. The district welcomes the participation of parents/guardians in support of students learning and recognizes that parental involvement increases the opportunities for student success. We recognize the important role of parents as their child's first teacher. Research shows that when schools effectively involve parents and engage them as partners in their child's education, there is a positive effect on student success. The goal of the Title I program is to provide for parent participation in the development and evaluation of its program, while promoting ongoing, two-way clear communication between home and school. The goal of family engagement is to develop a partnership between home and school that ensures that ALL children become lifelong learners.

This district family engagement plan serves to outline overall expectations for parent involvement activities and programs, establishes an environment for parental participation in Attleboro's Title I programs at the school level and identify the support which the Title I program can provide to assist schools in achieving their goals for active parent participation.

Components of a Title I Schoolwide program are:

  • Highly qualified teachers in all core content area classes

  • High quality and ongoing professional development for ALL teachers, principals and paraprofessionals

  • Strategies to increase family engagement for ALL families

  • Title I supplemental small group instruction which provides direct service instruction in ELA to students working below grade level by highly qualified teachers and paraprofessionals

  • Title I small group instruction is in addition to what students are receiving in class, not instead of. The small group instruction is supplemental

In order to build the capacity of Title I schools and parents/guardians for strong performance, the schools will communicate with parents in a regular, meaningful way by:

  • Providing notification to families of students participating in Title I small group interventions:

  • Notify parents of their child's eligibility for supplemental small group support services and provide a description of the Title I service, as well as an explanation of the curriculum and academic assessments used at the school.

  • If requested by families, opportunities for meetings and/or emails to formulate suggestions and to participate in decisions relating to the education of their child and respond to any suggestions as soon as practicably possible

  • Reporting student’s progress in the Title I program three times per year. (Coordinated with parent conferences and report cards)

  • Notifying parents about Title I family engagement workshops.

  • Providing virtual trainings/workshops, and strategies to help parents/guardians work with their children to improve their child’s social, emotional, and academic achievement

  • Assuring that every parent has a copy of the Home/School Compact and School Handbook

  • Providing parents with school telephone numbers and email addresses of Title I Literacy staff to contact in case of questions or concerns the parents have regarding their child's progress in the Title I program

  • Responding in a timely manner to parent inquiries and requests

  • Informing parents of their rights and responsibilities as a Title I parent

The Title I program, and schools will provide for family engagement by:

  • Convene an Annual Meeting to which all families shall be invited and encouraged to attend; to inform parents about Title I requirements and the rights of the parents/guardians involved

  • Creating an open, friendly atmosphere

  • Offering a variety of services including special topic workshops, informational meetings, and family engagement activities and events to support responsible, informed parenting

  • Communicating with families through informational bulletins, mailings, telephone contact, e-mail, Rooms, and a Title I link that can be found on the district and school home page

  • Supporting in-person and virtual school activities, which promotes families learning together and students becoming lifelong learners

  • Address the importance of communication between teachers and parent/guardians on an ongoing basis through, at a minimum: parent/teacher conferences & progress reports, reasonable access to staff, and the ability to observe their child’s classroom and/or Title I activities

Attleboro's Title I program will involve parents/guardians in the planning, review and improvement of Title I programs through:

Attleboro Families:

Attleboro High School greatly appreciates the support of families at all AHS sporting events.  While most students are there to watch the games and enjoy the event, a number of students have been left/dropped off unsupervised. This has created safety concerns and disruptions for other fans in attendance.

ALL middle school aged students and younger MUST be accompanied by an adult at all high school events.  We appreciate your support keeping all in attendance supervised while allowing an enjoyable environment for all.

Please know this expectation is currently in place for AHS events moving forward.

We look forward to seeing you all soon.
