As we wrap up our Reading Week celebration, we want to extend a huge thank you to everyone who participated and made this week so special! It’s been a fantastic week filled with fun and creativity, from the daily book quote trivia to the staff and students dressing up to celebrate literacy in style.
Our classrooms got creative with book boards, with each class designing unique boards to showcase their love of reading. Special shout-out to Ms. Strobel's Class for winning the Book Board Challenge with their Reading is Magical board — it truly captured the magic of reading!
Throughout the week, classrooms enjoyed guest readers sharing their favorite books and paired up with reading buddies for some quality reading time together. It’s been a wonderful reminder of the joy and excitement that comes with reading.
Thank you to everyone who took part in making this week a memorable celebration of literacy. Let’s continue to keep the love of reading alive every day!
Happy Reading!

Hello Thacher Families,
Happy March! Throughout February, our students learned about disease and illness prevention. Along with the constant reminders of how to be a ‘germ buster’ by washing hands, covering coughs, and keeping a healthy immune system, we have also covered what to expect at a physical with our doctor, semiannual dental cleanings, and an ear or eye doctor appointment for hearing or vision checks. Classes have also learned about the safe and proper use of prescription and over-the-counter medications as well as the dangers of misusing these medications. Our second and third-grade students were introduced to causes and symptoms of common noncommunicable diseases, such as asthma, diabetes, stroke, heart disease, and epilepsy.
Fourth-grade students are diving into the importance of being tobacco and alcohol-free with a research and presentation project. After learning how to discover safe and reputable websites and sources (.gov, .int, .org, etc), students worked in small groups to investigate the harmful effects of alcohol and tobacco, common ways they are used, and positive or negative influences one may experience from family, friends, or the media. I look forward to seeing the students present their PowerPoint to their classmates!
With the start of the month of March also comes the beginning of our Healthy Eating and Nutrition Unit. This week we kicked off with conversations about healthy fats, carbohydrates, proteins, vitamins, minerals, and healthy portion sizes. Students are encouraged to eat a variety of foods, or to “eat the rainbow!”
Our March Madness Fruit Bracket is near its end! Our final four fruits are apple, watermelon, cherry, and raspberry. Which one will be Thacher’s favorite fruit!?
Longer days and spring weather are (hopefully) just around the corner, and I look forward to taking classes outside for more physical activity! Please feel free to reach out if you ever have any questions or if you would like to chat! 🙂
Best,
Ms. Ashley Hanson
