From the Art Room

Dear Parents & Caregivers,

Happy March! I hope this message finds you well and ready for the arrival of Spring!  I am excited to share the fantastic projects we've been working on in Art class...

🎨 Art Room News – Exploring Clay Creations! 🏺

This month in the art room, our young artists have been exploring the wonderful world of clay! Students have been learning various hand-building techniques to create unique and meaningful projects. Here’s a look at what they’ve been working on:

✨ Pinch Pots β€“ Using the classic pinch pot method, students in 4th grade shaped and smoothed clay to create small bowls. These pots showcase their creativity and fine motor skills!

🏹 Arrowhead Pendant Jewelry β€“ Inspired by history, 3rd-grade students designed and crafted arrowhead pendants, learning about textures, patterns and symbols while making wearable art.

🐧 Clay Penguins in Their Habitat β€“ 1st-grade sculptors created adorable clay penguins, carefully sculpting details and placing them in habitats that reflect their natural environments.

πŸ”€ Kindergarten Alphabet Art β€“ Our youngest artists have been combining letters and art to build early literacy connections! Their projects included:

  • 🐧 P for Paper Penguin Puppets β€“ Students crafted adorable penguin puppets, reinforcing the letter β€œP” with playful creativity.

  • 🧡 Q for Quilt β€“ Using paper squares and patterns, students designed their own colorful β€œquilts,” connecting art with texture and design.

  • 🌈 R for Rainbows β€“ Bright and cheerful rainbow artwork helped students explore color mixing while celebrating the letter β€œR.”

πŸ“– 4th Grade Celebrates Read Across America! β€“ In honor of Read Across America Week, 4th graders combined literacy and art by learning how to draw the beloved "Cat in the Hat"! This fun activity encouraged attention to detail while celebrating the joy of reading through creativity.

🎭 2nd Grade Costume Design for April Performance! β€“ Our 2nd graders have been designing costumes inspired by the four seasons for their upcoming performance in April. Students are sketching and creating colorful, thematic costume ideas that reflect the beauty of spring, summer, fall, and winter. It’s been an exciting way to blend visual arts with the performing arts!

Thank you for supporting your child’s artistic journey!
