Principal's Message

Dear Thacher Families,

It's hard to believe we are already in November, especially with this amazing weather we've been having. We have had a fun busy week this week and know the upcoming weeks will be full as well. We loved seeing all the costumes, book characters, and panda gear yesterday. Mrs. Desautel and I had SO MANY choices for our costume contest. Congratulations to Soraya, Avery, Andrew, and Emmy who's ideas we picked for our costumes, a referee and a soccer player!

Today we were thrilled to welcome Mr. Tarsi and members of the AHS drama club who performed their play, Somebody Catch My Homework. A light-hearted, high-energy look at one eventful day in the life of fourth-grader Samantha, the new girl in town, who has lost her beloved cat, Corky. At the bus stop, Samantha meets three wacky new friends who welcome her into their class, which just happens to be studying the animal kingdom. Their search for essay topics takes them from a dinner table's chicken thighs to the pasture of a bull not pleased to see visitors. A wayward wad of bubble gum, tuba practice and a sticky baby sister later, the busy day finally peaks with the rescue of Corky. Nineteen humorous—and sometimes serious—poems by David L. Harrison are woven into the script as dialogue. Instead of bursting into song, the characters break out into poetry!

As part of the YMCA 2nd grade Swim Program, we were honored to have AHS student Zuri Ferguson, who swam in the 2024 Olympics come in to speak to our second-grade students today. She shared how she also learned how to swim at the YMCA!

For the safety of our students and staff, we are sending along a few updates. From 8:30-9:00, 12:30-12:45, and 3:00-3:30 the loop is for buses only. If you're dropping off or picking up your student(s) during those times, we ask the you park in the parking lot and walk up to the bus loop entrance. All visitors must ring the buzzer and wait for the clerks to answer.

We have noticed students are getting dropped off earlier than 8:30. Please be aware that staff are not on duty at arrival until the start of school at 8:30am. Our parking lot is very active in the morning and we want to ensure the safety of all.

Reminder, next week is also a busy week:

  • No school for students on Tuesday, November 5th

  • Parent/Guardian Conferences are Wednesday evening

  • Early Release Day at 12:25 on Thursday, November 7th with afternoon and evening Parent/Guardian Conferences

Don't forget to set your clocks back this weekend.

As we approach the month of November, we invite you to participate in our "30 Days of Thanks & Planks" challenge.  Starting Friday, November 1st, you'll work to increase your plank hold from 20 seconds on day 1 to an impressive 3 minutes by day 30!  Each day, as you focus on your planks, we encourage you to take a moment to reflect on something you're grateful for. It's important to take time to appreciate the little things in our lives.

Attached is a calendar for you to follow.  We hope you will join us in this fun and uplifting activity.

Be kind & be well,

Lisa and Stephanie

Queridas familias,

PTO Updates:

DATE CHANGE: Due to unforeseen circumstances, we needed to move the date of the Harvest Festival to November 8th.

Our PTO needs your help to make this year's Harvest Fest a success. We know people are sometimes reluctant to help out at events as they would like to enjoy the night with their family. In an attempt to give you the best of both worlds:

Helping out our PTO

Getting to enjoy the event with your family

We have broken the event up into smaller time blocks. Our hope is that you find a block you can volunteer for and then be with your family for the rest.
