Principal's Message

Dear Families,

What a spook-tacular day we had at school today! Our hallways were filled with superheroes, princesses, dinosaurs, and even a few friendly ghosts as we celebrated Fall Fun Day. Congratulations to Shayna from Ms. Johnson's class, whose "6 7" costume idea won our Halloween contest! Ms. Desautel and I had fun bringing her vision to life—I dressed as #7 Mickey Mantle and Ms. Desautel as #6 Bill Russell, the viral TikTok phrase that our students found hilarious and we're still not entirely sure we understand! We were thoroughly impressed by the creativity of our students and staff alike! A huge thank you to our amazing staff for such memorable activities, and to our students for showing such wonderful spirit and kindness throughout the day. It's moments like these that remind us why our school community is so special. Now, as we head into November, let's carry that same enthusiasm forward—minus the fake spider webs!

Warm regards,

Frank Rich, Principal

UPDATE: Friends Helping FriendsSupport for a Thacher Family

Dear Thacher Community,

We were blown away by the generosity of the Thacher/ELC community. We raised $883 to support our family who lost their home recently to a fire. This money will go a long way to helping them replace everything that was lost. Thank you to all who donated and for proving once again how supportive our community is!

With gratitude,
The Thacher/ELC Team

Arrival and Dismissal

Please remember that the bus loop is reserved exclusively for buses during arrival and dismissal times. For the safety of all our students, families must use the designated parent drop-off and pick-up areas. Driving through the bus loop creates dangerous conditions for children boarding and exiting buses. Thank you for your cooperation in keeping our students safe.

Golden Ticket Winners: Respect

Celebrating Macy’s Gotcha Day! 🐾

We’re excited to celebrate a very special member of our Thacher community—our therapy dog, Macy! Thursday, November 6 marks her Gotcha Day, the day she officially became part of our school family.

Macy brings comfort, smiles, and calm to our classrooms each day, and we can’t wait to show her how loved she is. Students will join in simple activities like writing or drawing about what Macy means to them, reading stories in her honor, and taking part in a kindness challenge inspired by our favorite furry friend.

To join in the fun, students are invited to wear something with paw prints, brown and white (like Macy) or Thacher spirit colors on Thursday, November 6.

We’re so grateful for all the joy Macy brings to Thacher—happy Gotcha Day, Macy!

Congratulations to Kahrie Wright for earning a Pawsitive Office Referral!

Kahrie noticed that another student was not being honest and was doing something not responsible. Kahrie quietly and privately told me she wanted to talk to me about something, and she shared the information. We solved it quietly and respectfully TOGETHER. I am so proud of you Kahrie! Thank you for showing Panda Pride and being respectful.

🍎 This Month in Health & Wellness 🍎

Hello Thacher Families,

We’ve already learned so much in Health and Wellness since the beginning of this school year!  In September, we began our General Health Unit, focusing on four dimensions of health: physical health, emotional health, social health, and intellectual health.  We learned about healthy helpers, how to reduce emergencies and report them if necessary, and influences on our health choices, such as family, ads/commercials, technology, culture, and environment.  Our younger students have also covered the Zones of Regulation, and discussed strategies for regulation back to the ‘green zone.’

Throughout the month of October, students have been learning about the skeletal system.  Grades 3 and 4 have taken a pre-test on the names of some common bones in the body, and have been trying different studying techniques to prepare for their post-test!  Grades 2-4 have also been using a program called Boston vs. Bullies, through the Sports Museum, to learn about bullying; how to identify a bullying situation using three characteristics, how to identify your power and use it to help rather than to hurt others, why someone might be a bully in the first place, and what to do if you are a target or a bystander in these situations.  Kindergarten and Grade 1 have learned about bullying through the story of Spookley the Square Pumpkin, by Joe Troiano.  The message of this story is that being different is something to celebrate, and students are decorating their own ‘odd’ shaped or ‘different’ colored pumpkins for our pumpkin patch to prove that what makes us different is what makes us special.

November lessons will focus on social skills and behavior, with thankfulness and gratitude sprinkled in.  For any parents, guardians, or families interested in learning more about our Health and Wellness curriculum, or about student behavior or progress in class, please do not hesitate to reach out!

For those that celebrate, have a safe, dry, and Happy Halloween!

Ms. Ashley Hanson, Health & Wellness specialist
