Principal's Message

Dear Families,

Conferences are right around the corner (Nov. 5th and 6th). These conversations are a vital opportunity to connect with your child's teacher, celebrate their progress, and discuss any areas where they might need additional support.

If you haven't yet signed up for a conference time, we strongly encourage you to do so as soon as possible. These brief meetings provide invaluable insight into your child's academic growth, social development, and classroom experience—perspectives that can only come from the partnership between home and school.

Warm regards,

Frank Rich, Principal

Sarah Desautel, Asst. Principal

Support for a Thacher Family

Dear Thacher Community,

We are reaching out to support one of our Thacher families who recently lost everything in a devastating house fire. In true Thacher spirit, we’re coming together through Friends Helping Friends to offer our help.

We are suggesting a $1 donation from anyone who is able—every dollar truly adds up and makes a difference as this family begins to rebuild.

To show our support, students are invited to wear a hat on Thursday, October 30 with their $1 donation. Thank you for your kindness and generosity in supporting a member of our Thacher family during this difficult time.

With gratitude,
The Thacher Team

From the Art Room

Hello Thacher Families,

🍁🍂Fall is in full color in the Art Room! Students have been busy exploring the beautiful shades and textures of the season through a variety of creative art activities. Here’s a look at some of the projects we’ve been working on:

🎨 Watercolor Leaves

Students are learning watercolor techniques such as blending and resist to capture the changing colors of fall leaves. They’re experimenting with warm and cool tones to make their artwork glow with autumn energy!

🎃 Pumpkin Paintings

Our young artists are painting bright, cheerful pumpkins using bold brushstrokes and layers of color. Each pumpkin has its own personality—no two are alike!

🌻 Sunflowers in Fall Colors

Inspired by Van Gogh and nature’s beauty, students created radiant sunflower pieces using paint and oil pastels, focusing on line, shape, texture, and contrast.

🍂 Tissue Paper Fall Trees

Using torn tissue paper, students are designing textured trees that show how fall leaves swirl and dance in the wind. This project emphasizes color mixing and composition.

As always, students are learning to express themselves through the elements of art and creativity while building confidence in their artistic voice. Be on the lookout for their beautiful fall artwork coming home soon—or displayed in the halls of Thacher!

Thank you for supporting our art program and encouraging your child’s creativity.

Happy Fall! 🍎

Warmly,

Ms. Maglione

From the Music Room

Hello TES Families,

Greetings from the music room! For those who do not know me, my name is Mr. Chippo and I am your child’s music teacher. We have been off to a fantastic start these past couple of months, so please enjoy some highlights below from a “day in music class.”

Welcome Time: We start every music class off with “welcome time” which looks different for each grade level. K-2 students often start with a hello song, where we move and sing (together and solo). Perhaps your child has mentioned Bobo or the copycat, who often make an appearance during this time. Meanwhile, older grades build their listening skills by attending to short musical excerpts in a variety of styles. We have gotten impressively skilled at using musical vocabulary to describe a piece of music and explain why we like/ don’t like certain songs!

Movement Time comes right after welcome time. For younger grades, this might look like copying the teacher or a student leader’s motions, demonstrating some basic movement vocabulary (flowy motion, bound motion, freeze, etc.), while upper grades may focus more on concrete dances that involve specific choreography. All students have continuously worked on coming up with their own creative movements as well!

Singing Time builds fundamental musical skills in all children. As I tell the kids “your singing voice is the only instrument that will be with you wherever you go.” Our earliest singers practice simple vocal exercises and learn songs with a limited vocal range as we build complexity with each passing year. At TES, singing time culminates with our grade 4 chorus class where students prepare several concerts a year. Grade 4 families, check your Rooms messages from this morning where I provided details on our December 18 Winter Sing-along performance!

Instrument Time is a favorite of all students. At Thacher, we are very fortunate to have a wonderful instrumentarium where students can explore a variety of instrument sounds. All students get opportunities to play our barred instruments (think: xylophones, metallophones, glockenspiels), which like most topics, will increase in difficulty as students age. We also have various unpitched percussion instruments like egg shakers, rhythm sticks, castanets, and so much more! Instrument time helps build fine and gross motor skills while developing instrument technique and reinforcing many musical skills we cover in other areas!

Goodbye Time: We often end music with a simple goodbye song and a short review of the topics we cover in class on a given day. With that in mind, this seems to be a great time to say goodbye to you all! Thanks for reading about what we do in the music classroom. Please feel free to take a peak at the photos below! As always, reach out with any questions at all–I love hearing from you!

All my best,

School Council

We’re excited to invite parents, caregivers, and community members to join our School Council! By law, every school has a council made up of both staff, family, and community representatives, and your voice is an important part of shaping our school’s future.

This year, the council will be working on both our current and new School Improvement Plan. Meetings are usually held virtually from October through February, making it easy to participate from home.

If you’re interested in serving or would like to learn more, please reach out me at frich@attleboroschools.com

You can also find additional information about School Councils here. We would love for you to join us!

Community Read

Be on the lookout for the Attleboro Public Library Community Read Passport coming home in your child’s backpack. Students can use these passports to collect stamps at the various community reading events held throughout the school year. Once the passports are filled, they can bring them to school or to the public library to receive special recognition at the summer reading kick-off in June.  All events will be listed on the calendar at attleborolibrary.org. The first event is on Monday, Oct 20 @6:30 pm at the Attleboro Public Library.
