Dear Families,
I hope this message finds you well as we head into another week together. As we keep an eye on the weather forecast, it looks like we may see some snow on Monday, and temperatures are expected to drop in the coming days.
With the colder weather arriving, please make sure your child comes to school dressed appropriately for outdoor recess. We do our best to get students outside whenever possible, as long as the feels-like temperature is above 20 degrees Fahrenheit. This means your child will need a warm winter coat, hat, gloves or mittens, and appropriate footwear. Layering is always a good strategy for staying comfortable throughout the day.
Thank you for your partnership in keeping our students safe, healthy, and ready to learn—no matter what the weather brings!
Warm regards,
Frank Rich, Principal
Sarah Desautel, Asst. Principal

Hello TES Families,
Greetings from the music room! I hope you all had a fantastic winter vacation full of family time, fun, and ideally at least a little relaxation. Please enjoy some updates from music class at Thacher, including some updates and photos below…
Each music class, all grades learn a variety of skills and knowledge through listening, movement, singing, and instrument activities. We’ve also been busy at work with grade 4 this week discussing middle school music course offerings including band, chorus, and general music. Students have learned a bit about what each class entails and have begun brainstorming what class they might want to sign up for when the time comes. Parents and caregivers: please be on the lookout for a note home from TES detailing a meeting with middle school music staff. There will be two meetings offered for the convenience of your schedule (one on January 26 and another on February 2) and it will be very informative for both you and your child. The period between now and then (and especially after) is ideal for discussing the course options with your child!
Grade 3 students have been continuing their movement skills through creative and choreographed dance, even making some folk dances on their own! We are also beginning preparations for a field trip to Veterans Memorial Auditorium on May 20. Students will have the opportunity to listen to a professional orchestra and will even get to sing and play their recorders with the orchestra. More details (and a permission slip) to come in the future.
Grade 2 students have an extra special update: I recently informed classes that we will be doing a public concert based on the book The Day The Crayons Quit. Students have begun learning a variety of fun color-themed songs and they already sound fantastic! I do not have a date for the performance yet, but I promise to be in touch with all grade 2 families in the near future. Keep your eyes peeled for more information!
Finally, our youngest students in Grades K-1 have begun learning formal folk dances these past few weeks. This can be rather challenging, but I have been quite impressed with how easily each class has picked up each dance! We have also continued building our singing skills (learning how to warm up our voices, singing age-appropriate winter songs, and even reading some basic music notation and improvising melodies with our puppet friend Joe the Frog). Of course, we are furthering our other performing skills as well through various pitched and unpitched percussion instruments.
As always, please be in touch with any questions or comments.
All my best,
Mr. Chippo, M.M.Ed

"Woah-oh, we're halfway there!" Monday, January 26th, will be our 90th day of school! 90 more days to go! We'll be celebrating with a throw back to the 1990s with a 90s Spirit Day. Students and staff are encouraged to wear 90s themed attire. ELC and Kindergarten started later so it's not technically their 90th day but we'd love their participation, too! |
