Principal Message

Thank you to all of our families who were able to make it to our Welcome Back Night on Thursday evening. I had a wonderful first experience and I have our fantastic school community to thank for that. I was so happy to connect with so many students and families. It was so nice to see our community come together for our students. The smiles and pride students had as they guided their families through their learning spaces was truly a happy sight to see. I can't wait to continue to experience events like these throughout the year. I'd also like to thank our staff for their commitment and dedication to making the evening a huge success.

November will bring our conference opportunity when families will be invited back to meet with teachers on a more individualized basis to discuss the current progress of your student's school year. More information regarding conferences will be going home in October. We hope you can take the time to join us then.

Please be sure to review a few important details below. Items include the October Calendar, Picture Day Reminder, as well as an update from this year's Student Council. You will also find a few district updates such as the Seal of Biliteracy, and the upcoming ELPAC meeting in October.

Wishing you all an enjoyable weekend!

Suzy Dalessio, Principal

Student Council

Congratulations to our 2024-2025 Student Council Representatives. Third and fourth grade students participated in their Student Council Elections last week. The group is made up of 2 representatives from each classroom in the third and fourth grade. On Friday, September 27th they held their first Student Council meeting. The group is excited to announce their first community outreach project, SOCKTOBER. Please read their message below.

For the month of October we will be participating in a sock drive called Socktober. We are asking that Feinstein Junior Scholars bring in a new pair of socks which will be donated to a local shelter. All sizes accepted. Students can drop their socks in the bin in the lobby. All donations are much appreciated!

Thank you!

Seal of Biliteracy

Seal of Biliteracy

Dear Families,

We are pleased to inform you of Attleboro High School’s participation in the Massachusetts State Seal of Biliteracy for the 2024-2025 School Year. The Seal of Biliteracy is offered to any student who demonstrates proficiency in English and any other language, whether they speak or sign the language other than English at home or learned it at school or in the community. The State Seal of Biliteracy aims to:

  1. Encourage students to study and master languages;

  2. Certify attainment of biliteracy skills;

  3. Recognize the value of language diversity;

  4. Provide employers with a method of identifying people with language and biliteracy skills;

  5. Provide universities with a method to recognize and give credit to applicants for attainment of high-level skills in languages;

  6. Prepare students with skills that will benefit them in the labor market and the global society; and

  7. Strengthen intergroup communication and honor the multiple cultures and languages in a community.

In order to earn the Massachusetts State Seal of Biliteracy, students must:

  1. Demonstrate a high level of proficiency in English by earning a minimum score of 472 or higher on the Grade 10 ELA MCAS,

  2. Demonstrate a high level of proficiency in a world language by attaining a minimum score equivalent to Intermediate-High on an assessment approved by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, and

  3. Satisfy all other graduation requirements.

 The Seal of Biliteracy with Distinction is available to students who:

  1. Earn a score of 501 or higher on the Grade 10 ELA MCAS

  2. Demonstrate a proficiency level of Advanced Low or higher on a Department-approved assessment, and

  3. Satisfy all other graduation requirements.

We will be administering the ELA MCAS throughout the year including in November and March. We will also administer AAPPL (ACTFL Assessment of Performance toward Proficiency in Languages) Measure at select times during the school year.

We look forward to honoring the language expertise and diversity in our district through this initiative. If you have any further questions, please contact Robin Frank at rfrank@attleboroschools.com.

Sincerely,

Robin Frank

Bus Transportation Update

As of September 30, 2024, students that have not completed a Transportation Application will not be allowed to ride the bus. If a student is at a bus stop in the morning, they will be brought in to school but will not be able to take the bus home if they are not registered. There is no waitlist so any new applications will have a 72-hour turnaround for the bus to be assigned. Families can learn more and apply on the APS Transportation webpage.

School Council

I am looking to get our School Council up and running this fall. The team consists of staff, families, and community members. The team works together to develop our School Improvement plan. We would meet five times throughout the school year. Our meeting would take place on Thursdays from 5-5:45pm typically before a scheduled PTO meeting. If you are looking to be a part of our School Council, please email me at sdalessio@attleboroschools.com

Weekly Communication

It is very important that all of our families check our various forms of communication regularly. This includes your child's daily homework/communication folder, Rooms App, and our Weekly Newsflash Newsletter.

100% of our classroom teachers are currently using the APS Rooms App to communicate with their families. Please check for updates often. If you are unable to access this application, please reach out to Kim Janssen at Kjanssen@attleboroschools.com.

School event calendars and breakfast/lunch calendars will go home in student home/school connection folders at the start of every month. Please ensure that you check your student's backpack for flyers, forms and important school news regularly.

Trunk or Treat

Our annual Trunk or Treat event is currently registering Trunks! Looking for Organizations, businesses, families, etc!  October 18th from 5:30-7:00pm at Hyman Fine (rain date of 10/25). This is an awesome way to get in front of your local community.  Cars do need to provide their own candy- we will have some to give if you run out- but plan for over 300 attendees. Setup will begin at 4:30 and all cars need to be parked and decorated by 5:15pm.

The PTO will be collecting candy, non candy items, and monetary donations for our Trunk or Treat. We will begin collecting at open house on 9/26. Items can also be sent into school beginning 9/27. All candy items need to be dropped off directly at school, and can not be sent in on the bus. We welcome non candy items and monetary donations, to be sent in on the bus. Make sure they are marked with your child's grade level. The grade who raises the most will receive an extra recess; also the grade that brings in the most items in weight, will receive a free recess.
