Hyman Fine Elementary School

News Flash

Principal Message

Happy Friday everyone!

It was another fantastic week at Hyman Fine. Our kindergarten students are settling in nicely and our school is diving into learning. Today was Penguin Day and we had a special visit from Jiji. Jiji greeted students off the bus this morning and danced around the school in celebration of our ST Math Launch! We hope to have all of our classrooms logged in and solving puzzles by the end of the month!

This week, the warm weather took a dip which sadly says it's time to shift into bringing an extra layer of clothing to wear. Please be sure to send your students to school with warmer layers as the season changes to fall.

Don't forget, our PTO is looking for feedback regarding the school yearbook. At this time the school yearbook is geared towards grade 4 students only. Your feedback about this current practice is greatly appreciated. Please take a moment to fill out the YEARBOOK SURVEY.

Reminders

School Council

I am looking to get our School Council up and running this fall. The team consists of staff, families, and community members. The team works together to develop our School Improvement plan. We would meet five times throughout the school year. Our meeting would take place on Thursdays from 5-5:45pm typically before a scheduled PTO meeting. If you are looking to be a part of our School Council, please email me at sdalessio@attleboroschools.com

Weekly Communication

It is very important that all of our families check our various forms of communication regularly. This includes your child's daily homework/communication folder, Rooms App, and our Weekly Newsflash Newsletter.

100% of our classroom teachers are currently using the APS Rooms App to communicate with their families. Please check for updates often. If you are unable to access this application, please reach out to Kim Janssen at Kjanssen@attleboroschools.com.

Calendars

School event calendars and breakfast/lunch calendars will go home in student home/school connection folders at the start of every month. Please ensure that you check your student's backpack for flyers, forms and important school news regularly.

Hyman Fine Reference Guide

We have created the A- Z Reference Guide which includes building protocols and procedures for families to note. Please read over this document as it includes pertinent information regarding our building expectations.

Aspen Login Details

You may notice that the login screen for Aspen has a new updated look... but don't worry, you'll still use the same login and password to access the site as usual. This new login screen is the first part in a series of upgrades designed to make the site more secure for families, students, teachers, and staff. If you have any questions, please contact the office at your or your child's school.

Aspen is our student information system. It is important that all of the information in this system is accurate and up-to-date. Please ensure that you notify our secretary of any changes over the course of year including email addresses, phone numbers etc. This system is also used for communications and accessing student report cards.

Transportation To & From School

Car Riders, Park and Walk & Walkers

If you plan to pick up and drop off your student each day or you plan to walk to school, please read these specific details in our Arrival Dismissal Document.

Bus Lists & Details Are Posted

Most answers to questions about transportation including bus stops, the fee for service program, or routes can be found on the APS Transportation Home Page. Should you have a specific question that you cannot find the answer to, please contact the transportation office at 508-222-0012. A reminder that for the first 2 weeks of school, times may be off by 5-15 minutes as everyone adjusts to more traffic on the roads when school begins. Please be at your stop at least 10 minutes before the estimated time of pick up/drop off. Once two full weeks have gone by, you will have a more realistic, regular time that the bus or van arrives/drops off at the designated bus stop. Thank you for your patience at the beginning of the year.

Trunk or Treat

Our annual Trunk or Treat event is currently registering Trunks! Looking for Organizations, businesses, families, etc!  October 18th from 5:30-7:00pm at Hyman Fine (rain date of 10/25). This is an awesome way to get in front of your local community.  Cars do need to provide their own candy- we will have some to give if you run out- but plan for over 300 attendees. Setup will begin at 4:30 and all cars need to be parked and decorated by 5:15pm.

The PTO will be collecting candy, non candy items, and monetary donations for our Trunk or Treat. We will begin collecting at open house on 9/26. Items can also be sent into school beginning 9/27. All candy items need to be dropped off directly at school, and can not be sent in on the bus. We welcome non candy items and monetary donations, to be sent in on the bus. Make sure they are marked with your child's grade level. The grade who raises the most will receive an extra recess; also the grade that brings in the most items in weight, will receive a free recess.
