Principal's Message

Hello Fine Families,

Happy May everyone! We are in the home stretch and there are lots of event's closing out the rest of the school year! A few more performances, assemblies, and field trips left to be had and specific details regarding each will be sent to families from individual classes.

Next week is staff appreciation week and the PTO has coordinated a Totally 90s theme for all of our cool staff. Thank you to all of our parents for denotations and volunteering your time to make this week amazing for our educators! We can't wait! If you would like more details on how you can help and how your students can help, check out our Facebook page and the PTO Facebook page for more information!

Lots of fun to be had on May 9th! On this day we will have our Fun Run Kick Off Assembly where we will gather as a school and launch our school's Biggest Fundraiser! If you haven't signed up yet, please get onto MyBooster.com and register your students today! Thank you to sponsors who donated! Everyone in our school, students and staff will be receiving an event day shirt! Sponsor names can be found in the PTO section below! Thank you to our families who have already started donating! Our Fun Run event date is May 21. More details about the fundraiser and event day will continue to be shared here as the date approaches!

May 9th is also Neon Day- students can dress in their brightest neon colors! This theme day fits perfectly with our 90s themed week and how fitting that our Hawk Heroes earned a GLOW DANCE as their PBIS incentive at Friday's assembly!

We have lots to look forward to as the end of the year is creeping up! Be sure to read through the remainder of this newsletter to find out what else is to come. I've included a "Save the Date" flyer listing end of year events so be sure to scroll down below. The May Calendar has also been included and will be going home in student's folders this week!

Wishing you a wonderful weekend,

Suzy Dalessio, Principal

Attendance Matters

Your student's attendance is very important. The more time spent in school learning, the more academic progress and success students can make. Not to mention, it's fun to be with friends, learning, growing and playing together. Building good habits and routines for coming to school will help create a solid foundation for your student's educational journey.

Did you know that daily attendance can reduce stress, increase your child’s self-confidence and lay a foundation for good attendance in later grades? For a list of tips and tricks for different age groups, click here: https://www.attleboroschools.com/o/apswc/documents/attendance/589595

Spring Things…from the Health Office

Spring is here with sunny, warmer days and early emergence of pollen and molds that trigger seasonal allergies.  Children, who have never been diagnosed with seasonal allergies before, may be affected when the pollen/mold levels are high.

Common symptoms include itchy/watery eyes, nasal stuffiness/drainage, scratchy throat, and headaches. If your child suffers from allergy symptoms, please contact your doctor for advice on eye drops, nasal sprays, or an appropriate non-drowsy allergy medication that can be taken before school to provide all day relief from symptoms.

Poison Ivy is everywhere.  Contact with the oil from the plant’s leaf causes irritation and a red pimple-like rash.  Children should wear appropriate clothing to protect their skin from exposure to poison ivy, especially in wooded or grassy areas.  Showering after being outdoors is also good practice to prevent irritation.  If a skin rash develops, over-the-counter medications such as caladryl lotion or hydrocortisone cream will provide relief from minor symptoms.  When the rash affects the face or eyes, contact your doctor, as a prescription medication may be needed.  It is important to remove over-the-head clothing carefully to protect the face and eyes from contact with poison ivy on clothing.

As outdoor evening activities increase, the time of day when mosquitoes are most active, use of bug repellent can help prevent bites.  Ticks can be found in the woods, but also in low bushes, grass and on pets.  It is good practice to check children and pets for ticks when they come in from outdoors.

Drinking enough fluids and good nutrition are very important during the warm weather as the body works harder to regulate temperature.  Please encourage your child to have a full glass of a beverage, preferred water, with breakfast and to bring a drink for snack and lunch.  Sunscreen can be applied in the morning at home since recess is usually outdoors, weather permitting.

Additional note:  Please pack a change of clothes in your child's backpack for any unforeseen circumstance
