Principal's Message

Hello Fine Families,

Congratulations to all of our third and fourth graders who completed their MCAS this past week. Our students worked so hard, and we are so proud of them!

Fourth grade families should have received 4th Grade End of Year Events packets. Please be sure to review these details and submit permissions for your students to participate in these activities. Most all of these forms are due back by May 30th. Also included in the packet is a 4th Grade Yearbook Order Form.

This week we have a lot of exciting things to look forward to. Bill Harley will be presenting to students on Monday. On Tuesday, student council has scheduled a School Cleanup event, and our students will participate in campus beautification tasks, throughout the day. On Wednesday, we will have our Fun Run event. On Thursday, Grade 4 will have their field trip and on Friday, Grade 3 will have their field trip. What a busy, busy week ahead!

We are about halfway through our Boosterthon Fun Run, fundraiser. Thank you again for all of the generous contributions to our school's biggest fundraiser! The money raised will go towards funding interactive TVs for our classrooms and help towards funding our busses for field trips. Any little bit helps! Details regarding the event are highlighted in the PTO section below. Families are welcome to watch pending good weather, however if it rains, we will have to shift the event indoors and will not have the capacity to host families indoors. We will continue to keep you informed on any changes to our schedule.

Wishing you all a wonderful weekend!

Suzy, Principal

Since April vacation, students have been participating in a team building/cooperative games unit. This unit allows students to practice the concepts they have learned throughout the year. Each week focuses on a particular theme/skill. For example, we’ve completed activities based on communication, motivating teammates, and sharing strategies. This all leads to the final week which is a challenge that incorporates all of the skills (River crossing).

We are also prepping for Field Day. An information/volunteer sheet has gone home already. If you want to volunteer, please make sure to promptly return the volunteer slip at the bottom and complete a CORI (if you haven’t in the past 3 years). We hope to see you there!!

We have created the A- Z Reference Guide which includes building protocols and procedures for families to note. Please read over this document as it includes pertinent information regarding our building expectations.

Attendance Matters

Your student's attendance is very important. The more time spent in school learning, the more academic progress and success students can make. Not to mention, it's fun to be with friends, learning, growing and playing together. Building good habits and routines for coming to school will help create a solid foundation for your student's educational journey.

Did you know that daily attendance can reduce stress, increase your child’s self-confidence and lay a foundation for good attendance in later grades? For a list of tips and tricks for different age groups, click here: https://www.attleboroschools.com/o/apswc/documents/attendance/589595

Spring Things…from the Health Office

Spring is here with sunny, warmer days and early emergence of pollen and molds that trigger seasonal allergies.  Children, who have never been diagnosed with seasonal allergies before, may be affected when the pollen/mold levels are high.

Common symptoms include itchy/watery eyes, nasal stuffiness/drainage, scratchy throat, and headaches. If your child suffers from allergy symptoms, please contact your doctor for advice on eye drops, nasal sprays, or an appropriate non-drowsy allergy medication that can be taken before school to provide all day relief from symptoms.

Poison Ivy is everywhere.  Contact with the oil from the plant’s leaf causes irritation and a red pimple-like rash.  Children should wear appropriate clothing to protect their skin from exposure to poison ivy, especially in wooded or grassy areas.  Showering after being outdoors is also good practice to prevent irritation.  If a skin rash develops, over-the-counter medications such as caladryl lotion or hydrocortisone cream will provide relief from minor symptoms.  When the rash affects the face or eyes, contact your doctor, as a prescription medication may be needed.  It is important to remove over-the-head clothing carefully to protect the face and eyes from contact with poison ivy on clothing.

As outdoor evening activities increase, the time of day when mosquitoes are most active, use of bug repellent can help prevent bites.  Ticks can be found in the woods, but also in low bushes, grass and on pets.  It is good practice to check children and pets for ticks when they come in from outdoors.

Drinking enough fluids and good nutrition are very important during the warm weather as the body works harder to regulate temperature.  Please encourage your child to have a full glass of a beverage, preferred water, with breakfast and to bring a drink for snack and lunch.  Sunscreen can be applied in the morning at home since recess is usually outdoors, weather permitting.

Additional note:  Please pack a change of clothes in your child's backpack for any unforeseen circumstance
