Hello Fine Families,

It was a fantastic week celebrating all of our teachers and staff! A HUGE THANK YOU to our incredible PTO. I was in awe at their contributions to celebrating the hard work of all of are dedicated staff. I can't thank the Teacher Appreciation Committee enough for their thoughtful planning in such a fun theme and their preparations! Thank you to our parent volunteers who gave teachers and staff the gift of time by volunteering during lunch and recess, and to all of our families who donated gift cards! I am so grateful to be a part of this school community working alongside amazing staff and families like ours.

Friday we officially kicked off our Hawk Hero Fun Run event. Registration has been open but don't miss the chance for your students to earn prizes along the way! Over the next two weeks families will receive emails and updates regarding our event, nightly challenges and more so be sure to check your emails and our Facebook page for more information regarding our fundraiser. Our goal is to raise $30,000 for field trip assistance and interactive TVs in all classrooms. Our students went home this weekend with a Fun Run Lanyard. This lanyard contains a QR code, making it easy to request donations from families and friends! We thank you for your contributions and support! Check out more details in the PTO section below.

Please remember that next week, third and fourth grade students will be participating in their Math MCAS testing. As we've shared in previous reminders it is important for students to be present and on time for testing. Ensuring a good night's sleep and breakfast supports a more focused learner. No devices such as smartwatches and phones will be permitted in testing locations. We wish our students the best of luck! You've got this!

It is very important that all of our families check our various forms of communication regularly. This includes your child's daily homework/communication folder, Rooms App, and our Weekly Newsflash Newsletter.

Your student's attendance is very important. The more time spent in school learning, the more academic progress and success students can make. Not to mention, it's fun to be with friends, learning, growing and playing together. Building good habits and routines for coming to school will help create a solid foundation for your student's educational journey.

The District does not carry accidental damage insurance. Students are responsible for any damage requiring repairs.

Spring Things…from the Health Office

     Spring is here with sunny, warmer days and early emergence of pollen and molds that trigger seasonal allergies.  Children, who have never been diagnosed with seasonal allergies before, may be affected when the pollen/mold levels are high.

     Common symptoms include itchy/watery eyes, nasal stuffiness/drainage, scratchy throat, and headaches. If your child suffers from allergy symptoms, please contact your doctor for advice on eye drops, nasal sprays, or an appropriate non-drowsy allergy medication that can be taken before school to provide all day relief from symptoms.

     Poison Ivy is everywhere.  Contact with the oil from the plant’s leaf causes irritation and a red pimple-like rash.  Children should wear appropriate clothing to protect their skin from exposure to poison ivy, especially in wooded or grassy areas.  Showering after being outdoors is also good practice to prevent irritation.  If a skin rash develops, over-the-counter medications such as caladryl lotion or hydrocortisone cream will provide relief from minor symptoms.  When the rash affects the face or eyes, contact your doctor, as a prescription medication may be needed.  It is important to remove over-the-head clothing carefully to protect the face and eyes from contact with poison ivy on clothing.

     As outdoor evening activities increase, the time of day when mosquitoes are most active, use of bug repellent can help prevent bites.  Ticks can be found in the woods, but also in low bushes, grass and on pets.  It is good practice to check children and pets for ticks when they come in from outdoors.

     Drinking enough fluids and good nutrition are very important during the warm weather as the body works harder to regulate temperature.  Please encourage your child to have a full glass of a beverage, preferred water, with breakfast and to bring a drink for snack and lunch.  Sunscreen can be applied in the morning at home since recess is usually outdoors, weather permitting.    

Additional note:  Please pack a change of clothes in your child's backpack for any unforeseen circumstance
