Principal Message

Dear Hyman Fine Families,

Can you believe we’re already wrapping up the first trimester? Time is flying, learning is happening, and our school is buzzing with great energy. Here are a few important (and fun) reminders to keep you in the loop:

❄️☃️ Cold Weather Reminder

We go outside every day that the “feels-like” temperature is above 25 degrees, so please be sure to send your student with warm winter coats, hats, gloves or mittens, and appropriate footwear each day. Layering helps in keeping our students comfortable throughout the day!

If your family needs help finding winter gear, just reach out. No one should be cold on our watch!

🎉 First Trimester Report Cards

First trimester report cards will be available in ASPEN on Wednesday, December 10th. Be sure to log in, celebrate the successes, and talk with your child about all the growth they’ve made. We are so proud of how hard our students are working!

If you need any help accessing ASPEN, our office team is always happy to assist.

🏫 APS Redistricting Community Presentation

Mark your calendars! The APS Redistricting Community Presentation will take place on:

December 10, 2025
6:30 PM
Bray Auditorium – AHS

This is a great opportunity to learn more, ask questions, and share your input.

☕🎉 Hot Chocolate Bingo Night – Hosted by Our Fantastic PTO!

Bundle up and get ready for a cozy night of family fun at Hot Chocolate Bingo Night, hosted by our amazing PTO!

Friday, December 12th
6:00–7:30 PM

Bring your favorite mug, sip some delicious hot chocolate, and get ready to win some fun prizes. This is always a HUGE hit and a wonderful way to connect with our school community.

Please be sure to RSVP by checking out the PTO section down below. We can’t wait to see you there!

Thank you, as always, for your continued partnership, positivity, and support. We are so lucky to have such an incredible school community. Let’s keep the momentum going!

Warmly,

Computer Science Education Week

Next week, our school will be celebrating Computer Science Education Week. This nationwide event highlights the importance of helping students learn the basics of coding. Coding supports problem solving, logical thinking, creativity, and perseverance. These skills strengthen learning across all subject areas.

Students will be trying out coding activities during their library time. They will explore how to sequence steps, create simple programs, and bring their ideas to life. Many students find coding exciting because it feels like a mix of storytelling, puzzles, and hands on problem solving.

If your child wants to try more coding at home, here is a great resource,

Code.org Activities Page where students can choose their age range, and then explore hundreds of free coding challenges appropriate for their level.

We will continue offering coding and computer science experiences throughout the year. These activities help build confidence with technology and support important future-ready skills.

Thank you for supporting your child’s learning and curiosity. If you have any questions about our computer science activities or resources, feel free to reach out to our instructional technology coach, Emily Schiller, at eschiller@attleboroschools.com

Attendance Matters

Schools are required to track and monitor attendance closely to ensure every child has the best opportunity to learn. When attendance patterns become concerning, we will notify families with a monthly letter. These letters are meant to provide early support and resources to help improve attendance before it becomes a bigger issue.

Please note- if you are taking a family vacation, even if you share your absence reason as such, vacations are not excused absences. However, your early communication allows us to properly record your reason for absence. Please let me know if you have additional questions.

Together, we can help every student succeed by making sure they are at school—on time, every day, ready to learn!

School Council

Thank you to the families and staff who have committed to being a part of this year's school council. Our first meeting was very productive. If you have any interest in joining the team, please reach out to me via email sdalessio@attleboroschools.com. We are looking for additional family members as well as members of our school community!

Our next meeting is December 16th at 5pm.

Hello Hyman Fine Families,

* The cold weather is upon us- please make sure your child is dressed appropriately (coats, hats, gloves etc.) for the weather. When weather allows, children will go out for recess and brain break.

* Please follow the school’s guidelines of when to keep your child home from school, as this will help to minimize the spread of illness.

School Guidelines are:

A temperature greater than or equal to 100.0

Your child must be fever free for 24 hours, without the use of fever reducing medication such as Motrin/ibuprofen or Tylenol/acetaminophen

Your child must be without vomiting for 24 hours.

If your child is placed on antibiotics s/he must complete 24 hours of dosing prior to returning to school.

* Health Screenings (Hearing & Vision) will begin in the Health Office next week and continue until completion. Please make sure your child has their glasses at school.

* If your child is prone to accidents, please keep a change of clothes in their backpacks. Donations of new boys’ and girls’ underwear are always appreciated.

Thank you!
