Principal's Message

Hello Fine Families,

We had a very busy week here at Hyman Fine! We started the fun with special guest singer and storyteller, Bill Harley. He had us singing and giggling on Monday morning.

On Tuesday, our school participated in a Spring Clean Up event! The classes went out and worked on cleaning up and beautifying our school campus. We picked up trash, swept walkways, raked leaves and mulch, planted flowers and will be working on our rock garden!

We want to extend a heartfelt thank you to our incredible PTO and families for their generous support and donations to our Fun Run event. Thanks to you, we surpassed our fundraising goal of $30,000!

We are thrilled to use these funds to support the integration of interactive TVs in our classrooms and to help cover the cost of buses for upcoming field trips. Your generosity will have a direct and lasting impact on our students' learning experiences.

Most importantly, I want to share that all of our students—and I—had an absolute blast running together. It was a joyful and memorable event for our entire school community.

Thank you again for making it such a success!

Lastly, please remember that there is NO SCHOOL on Monday, May 26 in observance of Memorial Day.

Wishing you all a wonderful long weekend!

Suzy, Principal

Class Placement Information 25-26

With new leadership often comes refreshed processes, and I’d like to take a moment to share our updated approach to class placement. Our goal in doing so is to provide clarity and insight into how we make these important decisions.

This process has been developed with great care, grounded in research and shaped through collaboration with colleagues across the district. At its core is a deep commitment to equity—ensuring that every class is balanced and that each student is placed in an environment where they can thrive.

When forming classes, we thoughtfully consider a range of factors: academic strengths and needs, behavioral profiles (including attention, independence, and teacher interaction), social-emotional development, and previous teacher experiences. Once we’ve created balanced groupings, we take further steps to ensure students have positive peer connections and that personality dynamics are well matched. While we can’t guarantee specific friend pairings, we strive to ensure each child has at least one familiar or compatible peer.

Only after establishing these balanced groupings do we assign teachers. This ensures that we’re matching students with teachers in a way that supports individual learning and growth. Our staff is also involved in reviewing placements to identify any additional insights or considerations.

Please know this process is both thoughtful and complex. Even small changes can affect the balance of an entire class. As a fellow parent, I understand how deeply you care about your child’s experience. I want to assure you that every member of our teaching team brings unique strengths and a deep dedication to student success.

Because of the care and complexity involved, we are unable to accept specific teacher requests. While we always welcome your perspective and input, we ask for your understanding as we make decisions in the best interest of all students.

Teacher Assignments

Your child’s teacher for the upcoming school year will be listed on their end-of-year report card. This approach, introduced last year, was met with positive feedback and helps families begin the summer with clarity and peace of mind.

Thank you for your partnership and support as we prepare for another great school year!

Since April vacation, students have been participating in a team building/cooperative games unit. This unit allows students to practice the concepts they have learned throughout the year. Each week focuses on a particular theme/skill. For example, we’ve completed activities based on communication, motivating teammates, and sharing strategies. This all leads to the final week which is a challenge that incorporates all of the skills (River crossing).

We are also prepping for Field Day. An information/volunteer sheet has gone home already. If you want to volunteer, please make sure to promptly return the volunteer slip at the bottom and complete a CORI (if you haven’t in the past 3 years). We hope to see you there!!

The end of the year is quickly approaching but we still have SOOOO many students to celebrate. Congratulations to another fantastic group of HAWK HEROES! This experience of calling families alongside these hardworking students has been such a joyful one filled with big smiles and lots of pride. Thank you for letting me be a part of your celebration and thank you for all that you do to make Hyman Fine such a fantastic school community! These students were nominated by their teachers for demonstrating kindness and responsibility. They model what is expected and support their teachers and peers. Way to go!

Attendance Matters

Your student's attendance is very important. The more time spent in school learning, the more academic progress and success students can make. Not to mention, it's fun to be with friends, learning, growing and playing together. Building good habits and routines for coming to school will help create a solid foundation for your student's educational journey.

Did you know that daily attendance can reduce stress, increase your child’s self-confidence and lay a foundation for good attendance in later grades? For a list of tips and tricks for different age groups, click here: https://www.attleboroschools.com/o/apswc/documents/attendance/589595

AGWOT - Monument Funding

Attleboro Global War on Terrorism (GWOT) Committee is working to fund and build a monument to honor and commemorate the brave men and women who have served, and are currently serving, in the conflict that followed the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. This monument - a symbol of remembrance, gratitude, and respect - will serve as a gathering place for reflection, healing, and education, ensuring that the stories and sacrifices of our service members are never forgotten.

The Committee is diligently working to raise $100,000 for a monument in beautiful Capron Park, near Veteran’s Triangle.  The projected dedication is planned for September 2025. The committee is looking for support with continued funding to support this initiative. Your help is greatly appreciated!
