Hyman Fine Elementary School

News Flash 10/11

Principal Message

Wishing our families a nice enjoyable long weekend. Please remember that there is NO SCHOOL this Monday, October 14. We will see our students back to school on Tuesday, October 15th.

Just a quick safety reminder to all of our families. We are noticing a lot of families parking in our main parking lot and walking students across busses during arrival time. There should be no drop off happening in that manner. If you plan to use the Park and Walk method for morning, drop off. Please park in the Park and Walk lot, and walk your student up to the building using the walkway. This ensures no one is crossing in front of busses during arrival.

Feinstein Junior Scholars

Golden ticket

Hyman Fine takes part in being a Feinstein Leadership School, part of the Feinstein Foundation. This foundation was founded by Alan Shawn Feinstein in 1991. Feinstein Leadership Schools are committed to teaching students to be caring and compassionate, and to help others in their community.

It is with sad news that we share the passing of Mr. Alan Shawn Feinstein on September 7, 2024, after a long life of serving others and promoting good deeds. Our school extends our gratitude to his devotion to modeling kindness and service. Hyman Fine will continue to teach our scholars the importance and value of kindness, generosity and service.

A Feinstein Flyer, GOLDEN TICKET, and Feinstein card will be going home with your student next week. Keep these items it in a safe spot. Each week, the Feinstein Foundation selects a few tickets as their GOLDEN TICKET winners. Winning ticket winners earn money for their school and charitable donations. Your Jr. Scholar Feinstein card rewards our Jr. Scholars discounts on activities/entrance fees to various museums, aquariums, parks and more.

Student Council

For the month of October we will be participating in a sock drive called Socktober. We are asking that Feinstein Junior Scholars bring in a new pair of socks which will be donated to a local shelter. All sizes accepted. Students can drop their socks in the bin in the lobby. All donations are much appreciated!

Thank you!

Seal of Biliteracy

Seal of Biliteracy

Dear Families,

We are pleased to inform you of Attleboro High School’s participation in the Massachusetts State Seal of Biliteracy for the 2024-2025 School Year. The Seal of Biliteracy is offered to any student who demonstrates proficiency in English and any other language, whether they speak or sign the language other than English at home or learned it at school or in the community. The State Seal of Biliteracy aims to:

  1. Encourage students to study and master languages;

  2. Certify attainment of biliteracy skills;

  3. Recognize the value of language diversity;

  4. Provide employers with a method of identifying people with language and biliteracy skills;

  5. Provide universities with a method to recognize and give credit to applicants for attainment of high-level skills in languages;

  6. Prepare students with skills that will benefit them in the labor market and the global society; and

  7. Strengthen intergroup communication and honor the multiple cultures and languages in a community.

In order to earn the Massachusetts State Seal of Biliteracy, students must:

  1. Demonstrate a high level of proficiency in English by earning a minimum score of 472 or higher on the Grade 10 ELA MCAS,

  2. Demonstrate a high level of proficiency in a world language by attaining a minimum score equivalent to Intermediate-High on an assessment approved by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, and

  3. Satisfy all other graduation requirements.

 The Seal of Biliteracy with Distinction is available to students who:

  1. Earn a score of 501 or higher on the Grade 10 ELA MCAS

  2. Demonstrate a proficiency level of Advanced Low or higher on a Department-approved assessment, and

  3. Satisfy all other graduation requirements.

We will be administering the ELA MCAS throughout the year including in November and March. We will also administer AAPPL (ACTFL Assessment of Performance toward Proficiency in Languages) Measure at select times during the school year.

We look forward to honoring the language expertise and diversity in our district through this initiative. If you have any further questions, please contact Robin Frank at rfrank@attleboroschools.com.

Sincerely,

Robin Frank

Trunk or Treat

Our annual Trunk or Treat event is October 18th from 5:30-7:00pm at Hyman Fine (rain date of 10/25). This is an awesome way to get in front of your local community.  Cars do need to provide their own candy- we will have some to give if you run out- but plan for over 300 attendees. Setup will begin at 4:30 and all cars need to be parked and decorated by 5:15pm.

The PTO will be collecting candy, non candy items, and monetary donations for our Trunk or Treat. We will begin collecting at open house on 9/26. Items can also be sent into school beginning 9/27. All candy items need to be dropped off directly at school, and can not be sent in on the bus. We welcome non candy items and monetary donations, to be sent in on the bus. Make sure they are marked with your child's grade level. The grade who raises the most will receive an extra recess; also the grade that brings in the most items in weight, will receive a free recess.
