Husky Howler: Hill-Roberts Weekly Family Newsletter

9-6-2025, Welcome Back!

Important dates:

9-9-2025 - Kindergarten Orientation

9-10-2025 - First Day of School for Kindergarten

9-25-2025 - HRES Welcome Back Night

10/16/2025 - Picture Day

Dear Hill-Roberts Families,

We had a wonderful opening week! It was so exciting to see students settling back into routines and classrooms full of energy and learning. Even with a few technical hiccups (our PA system and phones had a mind of their own!), the first days went smoothly thanks to the support and teamwork of our staff, students, and families. We are especially looking forward to welcoming our newest learners at Kindergarten Orientation on Tuesday and their official first day on Wednesday.

Just a few important reminders and items that require your attention these first few days of school:

  • Please Complete a Student Dismissal Plan Form for each student in your household.

  • ASPEN Student Handbook Sign-Offs
All families must review the student handbook and complete the sign-off process in ASPEN. It is expected that all students have a parent/guardian complete this step. Directions on how to do this in ASPEN can be found below.

Thank you for your partnership in making sure our year begins strong and safe for every child. We appreciate your attention to these details and your ongoing support of our school community.

Sincerely,
Dr. Paul Madden, Principal
Ms. Julie O’Boyle, Assistant Principal

Kindergarten Orientation, 9/9

Welcome to all of our Kindergarten families! Kindergarten marks the beginning of an amazing journey, full of curiosity and excitement. It's a time when children start to explore new concepts, develop social skills, and discover their interests. As they learn and grow, they take their first steps toward becoming lifelong learners.

Orientation for Kindergarten students is in person and will be on Tuesday, September 9, 2025. Students with last names A-L will be from 9:00-9:45 AM.  Students with last names M-Z will be from 10:00-10:45 AM.

Kindergarten students begin school on Wednesday, September 10, 2025.

Note: You will be notified of your Kindergarten student's placement on or before Tuesday, September 8.

Bus Lists? Bus Questions?

Questions about bus stops, the fee for service program, or routes can be found here.

Please note that in the morning and afternoon, please allow for the bus to arrive 10 minutes earlier or 10 minutes later than the stated time. In the morning, students should arrive at least 10 minutes before their scheduled pick-up time. In the afternoon, families should arrive at least 10 minutes before their child's scheduled return time.

Reminder: Transportation Applications were due by the last day of school, June 20, 2025. Applications received after this date are processed on a first come/first serve basis and are not guaranteed a bus for the first day of school. All eligible students who wish to ride the bus must apply. Payment is due at the time of registration if fees apply. Application can be submitted via email or in-person. Learn more:  https://www.attleboroschools.com/o/apswc/page/transportation

Note: If no adult is present in the afternoon to pick up your child, then they may be returned to HRES' ABACUS program (in our cafeteria) and a fee will be charged.

Arrival and Dismissal - Procedures and Plans

Procedures

Our goal is to make sure that arrival and dismissal is safe and efficient for all our students and families. If your student does not take the bus, please click on the link for a description of our Arrival and Dismissal Protocols. Reminder: STUDENTS MUST IDENTIFY the person picking them up as either a known caregiver or a caregiver on file. Please be ready and willing to show your ID. Early on this will be clunky, but student safety is paramount. Thank you for your patience in advance!

2025-2026 Dismissal Plans Update

In order to keep up to date records of students' dismissal plans, please fill out this form as accurately as possible. Please fill out ONE FORM FOR EACH CHILD. Although it may seem redundant, doing so allows us to sort and find students easily and allows us to provide individual teachers with accurate information. Thank you! We know it is one more thing, but your child’s safety is yours and ours number one priority.

Student Handbook Sign Off

Parents/guardians must sign off as an acknowledgement of the student handbook. This has to be done for EACH CHILD. Thank you.

School Technology Devices:

  • Entering K and 1- No devices will be assigned to individual kindergarteners. No devices will be brought home by K students. There will be devices available inside of the classroom for use at school, as determined by the teacher.

  • Entering 2- Incoming grade 2 students will be assigned a device.

  • Entering Grades 3-4- Every grade 3 and 4 student who currently has a device (Chromebook), will continue to use that device for school purposes, as determined by the teacher. We ask that you please send it fully charged into school daily.

As a reminder, in case you need to start searching, returning students in grades 3 and 4 are expected to return their school issued device and charger which were sent home in June. Students who do not return one or both of these items will be charged a fee.

Absences, Early Dismissal, Change in Transportation:

Communication is key in these areas.  Please inform both your teacher and front office of any of these happenings.

Absences – please call the front office to report your child not coming to school.  Also please note that for our absence to be excused you must provide a doctor’s note.

Early Dismissal – please send a note to school with your student and your teacher will send it to the front office.

Change in afternoon transportation – If your student is not going to ride the bus on one given day and is going to be a walker, please send a note so that both the Teacher and Staff know and can mark it accordingly.  This also helps on half days if you are normally an ABACUS student and are not going that day.

Attendance Matters!

Attendance Matters

Breakfast, Snack, and Lunch

Similar to last year, breakfast and lunch is free for all students. Menus can be found here.

Breakfast:

For students who eat breakfast at school, we ask that you drop them off at 8:30AM. To ensure a smooth 8:45am start for your student, any student entering the cafe after 8:40am may get a "grab-and-go" style breakfast. This helps them start the day on time with all their classmates.

Snack:

Classrooms will remain nut safe during snack time. All snacks that will be eaten in the classroom must be nut free. A snack should be sent with your child every day. Please be mindful of the packaging difficulty of snacks. We encourage healthy eating for snacks.

Lunch:

Lunch is free for all students. For younger students, talk to them about which choice they want, so making the choice in the classroom is easier for them. If your child has any food related allergies, please be sure to directly contact our nurse, Mrs. Sherri Knight-Cloud, at sknightcloud@attleboroschools.com or call the school and ask to speak with her.

Nurse Office Note

If your child(ren) will need medication in school this year, please see your doctor for medication orders. These need to be renewed at the beginning of each school year.

Please make sure we have the most up-to-date vaccination records for your child. If your child has any allergies (e.g., food, bees, etc.), please reach out to me to make sure we have that in our records to help us keep your child safe.

Looking forward to seeing you all again soon!
