Dear Hill-Roberts Families,

We’ve officially wrapped up our first full week of school, and it has been a wonderful start! Students were fully engaged in learning, building strong relationships, and meeting classroom and school-wide expectations. A very special welcome goes out to our newest Huskies—our Kindergarteners—and a warm welcome to both our new and returning Kindergarten families. We’re so glad you’re here!

A reminder: All families must review the Student Handbook and complete the sign-off process in ASPEN. This step is required for every student, and directions on how to complete the sign-off can be found below in this newsletter.

We are also looking forward to seeing all of you at our HRES Welcome Back Night on Thursday, September 25, 2025, from 5:30–7:30 p.m. It will be a great opportunity to connect, celebrate the start of the year, and continue building our strong home-school partnership.

Inside this week’s newsletter, you’ll also find:

  • Updates about our new math program

  • A photo from our Lost and Found

  • Reminders about our smart watch/cell phone policy

  • Important news from our PTO, including a Save the Date for the Fall Book Fair

Thank you for your continued support in making this school year a success. We can’t wait to see all the learning and growth ahead!

Sincerely,
Dr. Paul Madden, Principal
Ms. Julie O’Boyle, Assistant Principal

Tip of the Week

Children’s problems include adapting to a new classroom, bullying by classmates, or a big move to a new home but resilience is the ability to thrive despite these challenges.

Electronics Policy - Phones and Smart Watches

Short version: all phones and any watches that can record audio or video OR can communicate via text or voice or video must be stored in a students backpack and cannot be used by the student during the school day. Any exceptions need permission from an administrator and may be granted for documented medical reasons only.

Long Version - School Handbook Policy

Students are not allowed to capture photos, voice recordings, or video images of any person(s) in the school building at any time. This includes film and digital cameras, laptops, the video component of a video phone, photo, or video recorders, or through the use of any other technology used to capture photos or record video images. Exceptions can be made for students fulfilling the requirements of an activity assigned by a teacher.

The secret use of sound or videotaping devices is illegal (MA General Law Chapter 272 section 99). Videotaping or sound recording a class or individual without the permission of everyone involved is a criminal offense with severe penalties. Students engaging in such activities will be subject to disciplinary action. The inappropriate use of a video or picture cell phone is prohibited at all times; and may also be subject to the Cyber Harassment Policy.

All personal devices must be stored in backpacks and accessed only with permission of the educator for educational purposes. Personal devices are the responsibility of the student to keep safe and operational. (Student Handbook, p. 37-38)

Reminder regarding personal property and electronic devices:

The school cannot accept the responsibility for personal property on school premises. Such property is brought in at the student's own risk. It is the student's responsibility to keep lockers, desks, or personal space clean. Only those materials necessary for schoolwork may be brought into the building.

Cellular phones, electronic devices, and any item deemed inappropriate for the educational process are prohibited without teacher and/or Administrative discretion (Student Handbook, p. 42)

Reminder - Student Handbook Sign Off

Parents/guardians must sign off as an acknowledgement of the student handbook. This has to be done for EACH CHILD. Thank you.

Lost and Found (9/12/2025 at 3:20pm)

Lost and Found 9-12

If your student has lost anything during the day, please have them check the lost and found next to the door to our gym.

Reminder - Please write your student’s name in their lunch box and on their jackets/ coats. We have 6 lunch boxes and 10 jackets in out lost and found.

Change in Afternoon Transportation, Absences, Early Dismissal:

Communication is key in these areas.  Please inform both your teacher and front office of any of these happenings.

Absences – please call the front office to report your child not coming to school.  Also please note that for our absence to be excused you must provide a doctor’s note.

Early Dismissal – please send a note to school with your student and your teacher will send it to the front office.

Change in afternoon transportation – If your student is not going to ride the bus on one given day and is going to be a walker, please send a note so that both the Teacher and Staff know and can mark it accordingly.  This also helps on half days if you are normally an ABACUS student and are not going that day.

Attendance Matters!

Attendance Matters

Breakfast, Snack, and Lunch

Similar to last year, breakfast and lunch is free for all students. Menus can be found here.

Breakfast:

For students who eat breakfast at school, we ask that you drop them off at 8:30AM. To ensure a smooth 8:45am start for your student, any student entering the cafe after 8:40am may get a "grab-and-go" style breakfast. This helps them start the day on time with all their classmates.

Snack:

Classrooms will remain nut safe during snack time. All snacks that will be eaten in the classroom must be nut free. A snack should be sent with your child every day. Please be mindful of the packaging difficulty of snacks. We encourage healthy eating for snacks.

Lunch:

Lunch is free for all students. For younger students, talk to them about which choice they want, so making the choice in the classroom is easier for them. If your child has any food related allergies, please be sure to directly contact our nurse, Mrs. Sherri Knight-Cloud, at sknightcloud@attleboroschools.com or call the school and ask to speak with her.

Nurse Office Note

The Dentist will be here on Tuesday, October 7th.

Attleboro Public Schools offers the services of a mobile dentist that will see your student during the school day.  The program is free and is intended for children who do not see a dentist regularly.

The forms will be coming home with your student next week.  If you do not want the service, you do not need to return the form.  If you would like your child to be seen by the dentist,  please make sure to fill out the form completely, check YES at the bottom and sign the form.

Medications in school: Please do not send medication into school in your student’s backpack.  A doctor’s order, parental authorization and medication plan is needed before any medication can be given in school.  I can only give Tylenol in school if you have indicated so on the Medical Update form that went home on the 1st day with your student. It is important that I get one back for each student.

If you received a packet of paperwork for your student’s epi-pen, seizure med or inhaler that was left here over the summer, please return that to me as soon as possible.  Paperwork for those need to be updated at the start of each school year.
