Dear Hill-Roberts Families,
Happy Mother’s Day to all of the incredible mothers, grandmothers, caregivers, and family members we celebrate this weekend! Thank you for all that you do to support and care for our students each and every day.
We also want to extend our heartfelt thanks to our amazing PTO and school community for an incredibly generous and thoughtful Teacher Appreciation Week. Our staff felt truly celebrated all week long with wonderful surprises including a teacher supply bar, fun snacks, Tacos on Tuesday, a candy store, and a “Blind Date with a Book.” Your kindness and support mean so much to our teachers and staff.
Thank you as well to everyone who helped make this year’s Book Fair such a success! A special thank you goes to Dr. Dimond, our PTO, and Mrs. Sherman, our librarian, for all of their hard work organizing such a fun and engaging event for our students.
Looking ahead to this week, Grade 3 and Grade 4 students will participate in Math MCAS testing. We know our students are prepared and will do their very best! Thank you for helping students arrive on time, well-rested, and ready to shine.
We are also excited for the Grade 4 Spring Concert this Thursday and look forward to seeing our students showcase their hard work and musical talents.
Finally, this is a reminder that this Friday is an early dismissal day. Students will be dismissed at 12:25 PM.
Thank you, as always, for your continued partnership and support.
Sincerely,
Dr. Paul Madden Principal
Ms. Julie O’Boyle Assistant Principal

Math MCAS This Week - Suggestions for MCAS Readiness |
Dear Hill-Roberts Grade 3 and 4 Families,
ELA Math MCAS is this upcoming week!
Grade 4 will test on 5/11 and 5/12 and Grade 3 will test on 5/13 and 5/14.
To help create a smooth testing experience, please review the following expectations and suggestions:
EXPECTATIONS
• On-time arrival: Students must arrive by 8:45 AM. If they arrive late and testing has already begun, they will not be allowed into their classrooms until testing is finished.
• No candy or snacks during testing: Water only.
• Charge Chromebooks: Please ensure Chromebooks are charged to 100%.
• No electronics: Students may not have cell phones, smartwatches, or other devices during testing.
SUGGESTIONS FOR SUPPORTING YOUR STUDENT
• Encourage their best effort:
◦ Answer all questions, including the short answer and constructed response questions (which make up 15% of the total score). There is no penalty for guessing.
◦ Double-check answers—finishing early isn’t the goal! Remind students that everyone works at their own pace.
• Stay calm and focused: If a question is stressful, students can take a deep breath or come back to it later.
• Eat a full, balanced breakfast: A good breakfast helps with focus and stamina. If students do not eat at home, encourage them to eat at school.
• Get plenty of sleep: Well-rested students think and perform better. Testing days can be exhausting!
• Dress in layers: Classrooms can be warm or cool, so dressing in layers helps students stay comfortable.
As always, thank you for your support! Please feel free to reach out with any questions or concerns.
Sincerely,
Dr. Madden
Principal, Hill-Roberts Elementary School

HRES Spring Book Fair and Art Show - HUGE Success! Thank You!
|
This book fair was our most successful yet, from the amazing art show where families bought nearly 60 books for classroom libraries, to the incredible volunteers, some of whom returned on multiple days to support additional classes. We raised an estimated $8000 in Scholastic Dollars which will be used for the Let’s Find Out and Scholastic News magazines next year as well as a large purchase of books for the library, Title I reading groups, and supporting our MLL program with Spanish and bilingual books. Thank you all for continuing to support our school and classroom libraries as well as your own!
