Dear Families,

We hope everyone is getting ready to enjoy an extra hour of sunlight! Losing an hour is tough, but think of all the nice walks after school :).

Thursday night we loved meeting next year's Kindergarten families at our Kindergarten Information Night! A special thank you to our PTO for their attendance and continued support of our students and families.

A quick reminder that Friday is a half-day for students. 12:25 dismissal.

For now, please check out several important updates/reminders below.

Sincerely,

Dr. Paul Madden, Principal

Ms. Julie O'Boyle, Assistant Principal

Tip of the Week! Other ways to help kids adjust to the time change this week...

If you didn't see the article from last week's Howler from the American Academy of Pediatrics parent website, scroll down to "Other ways to help kids adjust to the time change". In short, you can help your children adjust this week by:

  • Limiting screen time before bed

  • Having set nighttime routines.

  • Getting enough exercise during the day

  • Spending some time outside and being exposed to natural light during the day

  • Relaxing activities in the evenings

March Half Day - English
March Half Day - Spanish

Reminder - Recess is Outside if the Feels Like Temperature is 25 Degrees or higher and its not raining.

While Spring is clearly on its way, we will continue to have cold and windy days. Please ensure that your children have enough clothing to stay warm.

Again, if it is not raining and not too windy, we will be outside if the "feels like" temperature is 25 degrees or higher. As a note, just like we use "Apple time," we also use the Apple weather app to help make this judgement.

Thank you for your support! As ou know, fresh air, sunlight, and exercise is important for our children's wellbeing :).

DESE School Report Card

Dear Hill-Roberts Families,

Every year, each public school and school district in Massachusetts receives a report card. Just as your child’s report card shows how they are doing in different subjects, the school’s report card is designed to show families how our school is doing in different areas. A link to our school’s report card is available at https://reportcards.doe.mass.edu/2023/00160045. This link will take you to copies of a letter in English, Arabic, Chinese, Hatian Creole, and Spanish explaining the School's report card.

If you have questions about our school’s report card please feel free to contact me, Dr. Paul Madden.

Informational Guide for MA Schools - Head Lice

While we do not have any cases of head lice at Hill-Roberts, this information is being shared across all Massachusetts schools to keep families informed about how to prevent, identify, and treat head lice. Here is a link to the flyer packet, which is in multiple languages.

--Reminders--

Update Emergency Contacts - in Case of Dismissal from Nurse

It is that time of year where we typically see an increase in illness, and we would like to take an opportunity to remind parent/guardians of the importance of having up-to-date contact information at the school for us to reach you in a time of need.  in addition, we are asking that you have additional emergency contacts that are available to pick up the child if needed.

If the nurse calls for the student's dismissal, it is standard practice for the dismissal to occur within the hour.  Thank you in advance for your support so we can continue to provide the best care for all students.

Peanut & Tree Nut Free Snacks in Class

Please double check that all snacks that are eaten in the classroom are peanut & tree nut free, this includes Nutella and other granola bars that may contain nuts for the protein/ low carb.  Many manufacturers are moving toward more natural/ whole foods in nutrition bars and are using nuts as a way to do this.  If you do include a product for lunch that may contain nuts/ tree nuts, please review it with your student that is to be eaten in the cafeteria only. Sometimes kids see a choice in their lunch and may choose the nut based snack to eat in the classroom.

State Mandated Vision, Hearing, Height, and Weight Screenings - K continued

I am mostly done with the state mandated Vision, Hearing, Height and Weight screenings for grades 1-4.   Kindergarten will include Near (reading) vision and Hearing screens. Distance vision was done in October by the Lion’s club.  As always, if you do not want your student to participate in these screenings, please send a note to the school nurse.

Before 3pm for Dismissals, Please

Please avoid dismissing your students after 3pm. While sometimes this is unavoidable, we appreciate your cooperation in ensuring our attention is focused on safely and efficiently dismissing our 425 plus students. Thank you!

Reminder - No Parking Areas

Please keep the area below (note: yellow tape and signage) clear for our busses. This is critical for allowing safe passage of busses. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Reminder - Parent/Guardian Supervision Required at HS Sporting Events

Attleboro Families,

Attleboro High School greatly appreciates the support of families at all AHS sporting events.   While most students are there to watch the games and enjoy the event, a number of students have been left/dropped off unsupervised. This has created safety concerns and disruptions for other fans in attendance and game management staff.

Moving forward, ALL middle school aged students and younger MUST be accompanied by an adult at all high school events.  We appreciate your support keeping all in attendance supervised while allowing an enjoyable environment for all.

Please know this expectation is currently in place for AHS events moving forward.

We look forward to seeing you all soon and thank you for supporting AHS!

Thank you.

Kate Campbell- AHS Principal

Mark Houle - AHS Athletic Director
