Dear Hill-Roberts Families,

It has been another busy and exciting week here at Hill-Roberts Elementary, and we are grateful for the continued support from our families and school community.

A big thank you to our PTO for providing the Rainbow of Snacks for our staff during Friday’s professional development day. The colorful spread was both thoughtful and delicious. We truly appreciate the PTO’s ongoing support throughout the year in helping keep our staff energized during PD days.

Our Book Swap was a huge success! Students were absolutely pumped to select two free books, and it was wonderful to see so many smiles as they discovered new stories to take home. Events like this help foster a love of reading, and we’re thrilled it was such a positive experience for our students. Special thanks to PTO co-treasurer and Book Fair Boss, Dr. Dimond for working with Mrs. Sherman to make this event happen!

You may also notice that Hunter is dressed up for our PTO fundraiser in this week’s newsletter! Be sure to check out the information below to see how you can participate and support our school. Funds raised by the PTO help support many important initiatives at Hill-Roberts, including technology resources, field trips, and classroom materials and activities that directly benefit our students and staff.

Looking ahead, MCAS testing is approaching. Our Grades 3 and 4 students will take the ELA MCAS the week of March 30. Please see the Important Dates section below for additional details and scheduling information.

A quick note about Friday’s dismissal: without the snow and using the new process we implemented during recent snow days, pick-up was incredibly efficient. Nearly all cars had exited HRES property by 3:30 PM — a new record! Thank you to everyone for your cooperation and patience. Let’s keep up the great work!

Finally, as a reminder from last week, due to the snow days this winter, the last day of school has been adjusted:

→ Kindergarten: June 12 (+5 days)
→ Grades 1–4: June 26 (+6 days)

Hill-Roberts' Book Swap Big Success!

We had our first Book Swap this week! This was successfully co-organized by our PTO's Dr. Dimond (pictured in the bottom right with her daughter) and our Librarian Mrs. Sherman.

Thanks to your donations and Dr. Dimond's efforts, all students were able to take home 2 new-to-them books during their library special this week!

PTO Provided a Rainbow of Snacks for Staff PD of Friday

Thank you so much to our PTO, and in particular, Dr. Dimond for organizing, setting up, and managing the "Rainbow of Snacks" Station for our team on Friday! We loved it!

Our PTO has been providing snacks/lunch for our Professional Development days for the whole year and it is so appreciated! Thank you for supporting us as we continue to push for teaching and learning excellence at Hill-Roberts!

You're Invited: A Night to Discover

On March 19, 2026, at 6:00 PM, Attleboro Public Schools (APS) will host A Night to Discover: APS Student Learning and Community Partnership Showcase. This annual event is an opportunity for APS staff, students, families, and community organizations to come together as students throughout the district display their learning experiences and local community resources share information about their services and programs. We look forward to seeing you there! 

 

 

Pick Up and Drop Off 

 

Morning Drop Off

Please use the drop off loop in the AM. Students should never be crossing the street unsupervised. 

To support greater efficiency for all, please make sure your student is ready to exit the car upon pulling up to the front end of the car line.

As a reminder, please be polite in all interactions with staff; safety is our priority. 

Afternoon Pick Up - Procedure Reminder

Our student Pick Up plan will be continued until further notice. Ms. O'Boyle (AP) and Dr. Madden will be outside to assist. Here are the directions:
1) Drive down Roy Ave
2) Pull over and park on right-side (additional parking in side lot and on the far left side)
3) Pick Up your student, then continue down Roy Ave to the turnaround (see cones and Ms. O'Boyle).

Please, no 3-point turns as this blocks traffic and creates safety issues for families walking back to their cars. Also, if you park on the allowed part of the dirt/ sidewalk on the outgoing side (see map), please move your car to the back of the incoming line if your car/truck cannot fit fully off the road. 


Thank you for your support and understanding as we balance safety with efficiency.

 

Bus Stop Reminders - Wait Outside at Bus Stop

Please be outside at your bus stop before the bus arrives. This is bus company policy. Waiting outside at the bus stop ensures that students are waiting safely before the bus arrives (and not crossing the street last minute) and helps ensure that bus routes are on-time.

 

Building Safety - Do not Pass the Door to Others

Just a reminder that when you are being buzzed into the main office, please do not hold the door for additional families/guests. Our front office needs to vet all potential visitors. Please remind anyone following behind you that they need to press the buzzer and wait for the main office to answer before entering.

 
 

2025 HRES School Report Card

Dear Families:

Every year, each public school and school district in Massachusetts receives a report card. Just as your child’s report card shows how they are doing in different subjects, the school’s report card is designed to show families how our school is doing in different areas. The report card includes multiple measures of a school’s performance – more than just MCAS scores. It represents a new way of looking at school performance, by providing information on student achievement, teacher qualifications, student learning opportunities, and more. 

Report cards are designed to be useful tools for everyone connected to our school. Families can use the information to have meaningful conversations with us about what the school is doing well and where there is room for improvement. Community and education leaders can use the information to better understand how to support students and our school.

You will notice on our report card that our school’s accountability percentile has never been higher (46th percentile), as last year our school performed better than 45% of elementary and middle schools statewide. As this is based on a three year average, it does hide the fact that we were the highest performing elementary school in the district last year with an achievement mean percentile of 53%. Further, we were one of only 92 schools statewide to outperform our pre-pandemic achievement levels—marking the highest performance in our school’s history! To support this upward trend in student performance, we are continuing to focus on writing as our instructional focus and, more generally, literacy, as our key focus area. We encourage you to become involved in helping us improve our school. We see parents as critical partners in the success of our students and school, and we are grateful for your continued support.

Finally, as your child attends a school that receives federal Title I funds, you also have the right to request the following information about the qualifications of your child’s classroom teachers:

   -Whether your child’s teacher is licensed in the grade levels and subject areas they teach,

   -Whether your child’s teacher is teaching under an emergency license or waiver,

   -The college degree and major of your child’s teacher, and

   -Whether your child is provided services by paraprofessionals and, if so, their qualifications.

Deadline for Yearbook Shout-Outs Extended until March 20th

Dear 4th Grade Families,

A huge thank you to all the students who submitted artwork for this year’s yearbook cover contest! We were blown away by the creativity and hard work shown by our 4th graders—they truly did a fantastic job.

Because we want to make sure everyone has a chance to be included, we are extending the deadline for yearbook Shout-Outs until March 20th.

A Shout-Out is a wonderful way to send a short, sweet message to your student to celebrate their time at Hill Roberts. Messages are welcome from anyone—parents, guardians, grandparents, or other family members are all invited to participate!

Please make sure to submit your messages by the new March 20th deadline to ensure they make it into the final print.
