Dear Hill-Roberts Families,

We hope you’re all staying warm and enjoying the snow—though at this point, we think we’re all running out of places to put it! ❄️😄 As we head into the next stretch of winter, we wanted to share a few important updates and reminders.

Please note that we will have a Half Day this Friday with a 12:25pm dismissal. This week is also our Book Drive, with donated books being used for a FREE in-school book swap happening March 2–6—be sure to check out the PTO flyer for details. Someone Special Dance tickets are on sale now through 2/13, so don’t forget to grab yours (see the PTO flyer for more information).

Below, you’ll find our DESE School Report Card for your review. We’d also like to remind families about the new winter pick-up routine, particularly the importance of avoiding 3-point turns. Please be cautious and courteous around other cars and families as students are getting in and out of vehicles—your patience and attention help keep everyone safe.

Looking ahead, Grade 2 Swim at the Attleboro YMCA will begin shortly after February break—additional details are included below.

Thank you, as always, for your continued support. And of course… Go Pats! 🏈

Sincerely,

Dr. Paul Madden, Principal
Ms. Julie O’Boyle, Assistant Principal

Half Day, Friday 2/13

12:25 dismissal on Friday. Please notify the main office with any transportation changes.

Grade 2 Swim Starts 3/2 - Permission Slips Coming Soon

Grade 2 Swim at the Attleboro YMCA will run again this year from March 2nd-April 8th. This has been a wonderful partnership with the YMCA and an experience that even our most hesitant swimmers have enjoyed!

Each grade 2 class will go once per week for 6 weeks. Be on the look out for permission slips going out next week.  The following classes will be going together on the following days from 3/2 to 4/8:

      -Monday - Davis and Fouquet

      -Wednesday - Wright and Laprade

Reminder - Valentine’s Day Celebrations

We will be enjoying several fun, themed days during the week of 2/14 (more details coming soon!). As a reminder of the District’s food policy, please do not send in food or candy to be shared with classmates. Non-food items such as pencils, stickers, and cards are welcome if you choose to participate. Please be sure that every child receives an item, and that items are labeled only with “from: (your child)."

Pick Up and Drop Off Reminders

Reminder regarding 3 point turns with the winter pick-up process. Be cautious and courteous around other cars and families getting in and out of vehicles.

Morning Drop Off

Please use the drop off loop in the AM. Students should never be crossing the street unsupervised. With the increased snow, Dr. Madden will be present in our side lot to:

a) help to guide students out of their cars and

b) help direct traffic in the parking lot to support bus movement down Roy Ave and overall efficiency for walker families.

To support greater efficiency for all, please make sure your student is ready to exit the car upon pulling up to the front end of the car line.

As a reminder, please be polite in all interactions with staff; safety is our priority.

Afternoon Pick Up - Updated Procedure Reminder

We still have limited parking spaces on Roy Ave. Our student Pick Up plan from yesterday will be continued until further notice. Ms. O'Boyle (AP) and Dr. Madden will be outside to assist. Here are the directions:
1) Drive down Roy Ave
2) Pull over and park on right-side only
3) Pick Up your student, then continue down Roy Ave to the turnaround (see cones and Ms. O'Boyle).

Please, no 3-point turns as this creates safety issues for families walking back to their cars.

Thank you for your support and understanding as we balance safety with efficiency.

Bus Stop Reminders - Wait Outside at Bus Stop

Please be outside at your bus stop before the bus arrives. This is bus company policy. Waiting outside at the bus stop ensures that students are waiting safely before the bus arrives (and not crossing the street last minute) and helps ensure that bus routes are on-time.

Building Safety - Do not Pass the Door to Others

Just a reminder that when you are being buzzed into the main office, please do not hold the door for additional families/guests. Our front office needs to vet all potential visitors. Please remind anyone following behind you that they need to press the buzzer and wait for the main office to answer before entering.

Cold Weather Reminder - Dress for Recess

We go outside every day that the “feels-like” temperature is above 25 degrees, so please be sure to send your student with warm winter coats, hats, gloves or mittens, and appropriate footwear each day. Layering helps in keeping our students comfortable throughout the day!

If your family needs help finding winter gear, just reach out. No one should be cold on our watch!

2025 HRES School Report Card

2/6/2026

Dear Families:

Every year, each public school and school district in Massachusetts receives a report card. Just as your child’s report card shows how they are doing in different subjects, the school’s report card is designed to show families how our school is doing in different areas. A link to our school’s report card is available at https://reportcards.doe.mass.edu/2025/00160045.

The report card includes multiple measures of a school’s performance – more than just MCAS scores. It represents a new way of looking at school performance, by providing information on student achievement, teacher qualifications, student learning opportunities, and more.

Report cards are designed to be useful tools for everyone connected to our school. Families can use the information to have meaningful conversations with us about what the school is doing well and where there is room for improvement. Community and education leaders can use the information to better understand how to support students and our school.

You will notice on our report card that our school’s accountability percentile has never been higher (46th percentile), as last year our school performed better than 45% of elementary and middle schools statewide. As this is based on a three year average, it does hide the fact that we were the highest performing elementary school in the district last year with an achievement mean percentile of 53%. Further, we were one of only 92 schools statewide to outperform our pre-pandemic achievement levels—marking the highest performance in our school’s history! To support this upward trend in student performance, we are continuing to focus on writing as our instructional focus and, more generally, literacy, as our key focus area. We encourage you to become involved in helping us improve our school. We see parents as critical partners in the success of our students and school, and we are grateful for your continued support.

Finally, as your child attends a school that receives federal Title I funds, you also have the right to request the following information about the qualifications of your child’s classroom teachers:

-Whether your child’s teacher is licensed in the grade levels and subject areas they teach,

-Whether your child’s teacher is teaching under an emergency license or waiver,

-The college degree and major of your child’s teacher, and

-Whether your child is provided services by paraprofessionals and, if so, their qualifications.

If you have questions about our school’s report card, would like to become involved in school improvement activities, or would like to request information about the qualifications of your child’s classroom teacher, please contact pmadden@attleboroschools.com To see our district’s report card or to search for other schools’ report cards, visit reportcards.doe.mass.edu.

Sincerely,

Dr. Paul Madden, Principal
