Dear Hill-Roberts Families,
Happy November! What a wonderful week it has been at Hill-Roberts. Our Race for Education was a huge success, and the weather turned out to be beautiful. Thanks to your incredible support, we’ve already raised over $11,000, and we’re still working toward our $20,000 goal. Fundraising will remain open through Friday, November 7, with all proceeds helping to fund field trips and technology improvements throughout the school.
We also celebrated our first CREST Assembly of the year, highlighting our CREST All-Star theme and recognizing our Golden Huskies—students who consistently show Caring, Respect, Excellence, Safety, and Trust. It was such a joyful celebration of our school values. Even with changes to our usual October 31 activities, we had our best 10/31 attendance since the pandemic, thanks to all the excitement and school spirit. See pictures below!
A quick reminder that there will be no school on Tuesday, and Thursday is a half day with early dismissal at 12:25 p.m. Parent-Teacher Conferences will take place this Wednesday and Thursday, and we’re looking forward to connecting with families to celebrate student growth and discuss goals for the months ahead.
Sincerely, Dr. Paul Madden, Principal
Ms. Julie O’Boyle, Assistant Principal

CREST Assembly #1 - CREST All Stars |
We were so excited to end our school-spirit filled school day with our first CREST assembly! Our newest Golden Huskies will be published in our next Howler, but all were selected for showing CREST 100% of the time. While this Assembly's theme was CREST All Stars. The following assemblies will focus on each aspect of CREST, that is, Caring, Respect, Excellence, Safety, and Trust. Below is the analogy we used and will continue to use to frame our celebration of CREST, as a team effort, during our remaining CREST assemblies. |

Parent Teacher Conferences
|
Parent/Teacher conferences will be on November 5th and 6th:
Please sign up for a conference time-slot here. Time slots are available for all of our classroom teachers, our specialists (i.e., art, health, library, music, physical education), our SPARK teachers, and our Title 1 Reading Teacher. Our MLL and Special Education Inclusion teachers are available to meet as well, but they will plan on joining your meeting with your child's classroom teacher, unless you reach out to them directly to schedule a one-on-one meeting.
Please review the following tips:
Be on time for your conference.
Conferences are 10 minutes.
Knock on the entry way at the start of your conference time as a gentle reminder to the teacher.
If you are signing up for more than one conference, leave a buffer in between time slots. Do not book back to back times.

Outdoor Recess Guidelines - Feels like 25 degrees and above
|
We aim to have outdoor recess any day that it is not actively raining, recess equipment is adequately clear of snow/ ice, and the "feels like" temperature is above 25 degrees (F).
Now that we are getting colder weather, be sure to (re)label your students' gloves, hats, and jackets. As you know, dressing in layers is great, but it does mean there is more for your students' to lose. Help us, help you by labeling your students' clothes :).

Yearly, state mandated, Vision and Hearing screenings continues this week ( distance vision was already done by the Lion’s club for K). If your child wears glasses, please make sure they have their glasses with them every day. If you do not wish to have your child participate in the screenings, you may opt of the screenings by sending in a written note with your student. 4th grade is screened for distance vision and their height and weight is checked. All of the other grades are checked for Vision, (distance and close up), and Hearing. Heights and weights are also checked in 1st grade. If your student does not pass a screening, a referral letter will be sent home with your student. Please follow up on any referrals promptly as poor vision or hearing can have an impact on your students learning. Please send completed referrals back to me as I do use them to track the efficiency of the screening process. Please contact me with any questions about the state mandated screenings.
