Dear Hill-Roberts Families,

It’s been a wonderful week at school! Our Race for Education fundraiser is in full swing, and we’re so grateful for your support. Every dollar raised goes directly to our amazing PTO, which helps fund classroom supplies, technology improvements, and memorable learning experiences like field trips that make our students’ days so special.

We’re also going wild for our Jungle-themed Book Fair this week! Thank you to everyone who joined us for our Bingo for Books event this Friday! It’s always such a joy to see students exploring new stories and discovering the excitement of reading.

And finally, a big thank you to everyone for making Picture Day last Thursday such a success—the smiles were absolutely adorable, and we can’t wait to see the finished photos!

Thank you for all you do to make our school such a vibrant, supportive community!

Sincerely,
Dr. Paul Madden, Principal
Ms. Julie O’Boyle, Assistant Principal

Tip of the Week - Book Fair

The Book Fair is here! Help your child make the most of it by setting a spending plan together before they shop. Encourage them to choose at least one “just-for-fun” book and one that challenges their reading skills. Talking about their choices afterward is a great way to build excitement around reading!

If your child may need financial assistance to participate, please reach out to Ms. Parker (mparker@attleboroschools.com).

Parent Teacher Conferences

Parent/Teacher conferences will be on November 5th and 6th:

  • 11/5/2025 - Evening (5:30-7:30) Conferences

  • 11/6/2025 - Afternoon (1:00-3:30) and Evening (4:15-6:15) Conferences

Please sign up for a conference time-slot here. Time slots are available for all of our classroom teachers, our specialists (i.e., art, health, library, music, physical education), our SPARK teachers, and our Title 1 Reading Teacher. Our MLL and Special Education Inclusion teachers are available to meet as well, but they will plan on joining your meeting with your child's classroom teacher, unless you reach out to them directly to schedule a one-on-one meeting.

Please review the following tips:

  • Be on time for your conference.

  • Conferences are 10 minutes.

  • Knock on the entry way at the start of your conference time as a gentle reminder to the teacher.

  • If you are signing up for more than one conference, leave a buffer in between time slots. Do not book back to back times.

APS No Food/Candy Celebration Policy Reminder

With Holidays coming up this month and over the next few months, just a reminder about the District's food policy:

  • No - no food and no candy items are allowed to be sent in to be shared with classmates. Some students have severe allergies and this policy is meant to protect the health and safety of all of our students.

  • Yes - pencils, stickers, and cards are all perfectly fine to send in if you choose

Outdoor Recess Guidelines - Feels like 25 degrees and above

We aim to have outdoor recess any day that it is not actively raining, recess equipment is adequately clear of snow/ ice, and the "feels like" temperature is above 25 degrees (F).

Now that we are getting colder weather, be sure to (re)label your students' gloves, hats, and jackets. As you know, dressing in layers is great, but it does mean there is more for your students' to lose. Help us, help you by labeling your students' clothes :).

Reminder - Wear Your Race for Ed T-Shirts on 10/31/2025

On 10/31 we will be hosting our annual PTO fundraiser, Race for Ed. Students will be provided with a free t-shirt to wear and they will have the option to wear it to school or put it on at school on Friday, 10/31.

Students will be walking around as part of Race for Ed, but we will not be doing a costume parade. Please keep costumes, costume props, and/or make-up at home. If you have any questions, please feel to reach out to us.

Reminder - Attleboro READS! Passport and Attleboro Public Library Reading Events

Attleboro Reads

Be on the lookout for the Attleboro Public Library Community Read Passport coming home in your child’s backpack. Students can use these passports to collect stamps at the various community reading events held throughout the school year. Once the passports are filled, they can bring them to school or to the public library to receive special recognition at the summer reading kick-off in June.  All events will be listed on the calendar at attleborolibrary.org. The first event is on Monday, Oct 20 @6:30 pm at the Attleboro Public Library.

Welcome Center Update

Contact or visit the Welcome Center for access to Community Resources, Community Flyers, and support for all things APS. This week’s Community Flyers include Halloween events, sports clinics, and parent information sessions hosted by the local community.

Nurse Office Note

I am going to begin the yearly state mandated Vision and Hearing screenings with 4th grade and then work my way through the grades, 3rd, 2nd, 1st and K ( distance vision was already done by the Lion’s club for K).  If your child wears glasses, please make sure they have their glasses with them every day.  If you do not wish to have your child participate in the screenings, you may opt of the screenings by sending in a written note with your student.  4th grade is screened for distance vision and their height and weight is checked. All of the other grades are checked for Vision, (distance and close up), and Hearing. Heights and weights are also checked in 1st grade.  If your student does not pass a screening, a referral letter will be sent home with your student. Please follow up on any referrals promptly as poor vision or hearing can have an impact on your students learning. Please send completed referrals back to me as I do use them to track the efficiency of the screening process. Please contact me with any questions about the state mandated screenings.

Halloween is upon us in a couple of weeks, please do not send in candy to be shared with classmates per our non-food celebration procedure.  If your child wants to share their Halloween spirit with classmates, please do so in a non-food way. Donating a book from our book fair in your child’s name is a great option.
